No ST12 in June 2012 please!

Sorry for my Eng, but I’m from Poland. You know, polar bears in the streets and so on:) I hope the will move ST12. Seriously. ST11 was a rush job and cutting some corners to some extent. I mean some locations, engineering, aliens, etc looked like they barely made it with time and money they had. Yet the shooting began 13 months prior to the original release date. And now they would have to start shooting in May to begin 13 months before release. I know they can reuse loads of designs and other stuff, but that all was quite ready when ST 11 shooting begun. So for me, if shooting doesn’t begin in July at the latest, then the should make the production a bit longer and launch a masterpiece in November rather then average rushjob in July. Dark man rises will begin shooting in may, spidey is probably done and still no script for st12, with roughly the same release date.

If it releases in late June 2012... it'll have been 38 months since the original film was released. Wait too much longer and they may lose any momentum generated from the original film.

They brewery was used for engineering for reasons of money, not time.

The only thing that impacted the film was the writers' strike, and even that wasn't a big deal. Nimoy's lines on Delta Vega were rewritten and rerecorded after the strike ended and his mouth reanimated (by Digital Domain) to sync with the new dialogue. According to the commentary track, JJ was tinking with the mind meld scene two weeks prior to the film's release.

And what was wrong with the aliens? I thought they were the best ever in Trek.

They don't need that much lead time. ST XI was completed (everything - editing, scoring, etc) more than 5 months prior to its release date and the studio sat on it because the release date was changed to allow more international promotion.

I thought the release date was changed because the studio execs liked it and thought it would make more money in the summer?

Different sides of the same coin. The additional marketing was to make sure that it would become a summer block buster.

Yeah, sorry. One thing led to the other. Moving it to summer allowed more international promotion.

How was ST11 a rush job? That's one thing I've never heard it described as.

I mean some locations, engineering, aliens, etc looked like they barely made it with time and money they had.

Other than engineering (which was budget,) what of those suggested to you that corners were cut because of time?

but that all was quite ready when ST 11 shooting begun.

It may not have been.

Nice to know Americans know something about geography:) The best polish beers are the ones you can hardly buy even in Poland, trust me. It was said about ST11 that JJ wanted different alliens, but time & budget made it impossible, etc. Just've jest seen Thor in 3D. ST11 was better in my opinion.

Sad thing is they could have probably afforded a good engineering set had they not wasted the money on the prison planet scenes.

More compressed shooting schedules for blockbusters - and more and more often, beginning production with an unpolished script - are becoming the norm in Hollywood rather than the troubled exception.

Which doesn't make things any better.

Greed at its finest.

^^But if everything I've read about TMP is to be believed, seems like this has been a long-standing Hollywood problem (script issues/release dates/vfx problems)

In the case of ST:TMP it was a much-discussed exception to the way movies were planned, budgeted and made. Now much worse is "normal."

I can't see ST12 make the deadline anyway without any sacrifice on quality/amount of CGI. On the other hand only guys like Peter Jackson and James Cameron have luxury to make CGI masterpieces these days. And others? If artists work like chinease plant workers on the project, then it becomes another made in china with just enough quality to make it watchable, with no true vision or quality.

A completely wrong statement. Completely wrong. Yes, Jackson and Cameron have had movies with incredible CGI, but that doesn't mean that other films have been able to produce excellent CG work, District 9 and even Star Trek 11 are recent examples. Despite the fact that the script isn't done, I'm sure there is a division at ILM at this very moment going through the pre-production process and preparing for when it does hit.

There is a problem in the VFX industry about films having way too compressed post production times, but I don't understand what everyone is freaking out about this release date. They have over a year, and many assets of the film are already built and created (the bridge and CG model of the Enterprise, etc.) Once that script is done its going to hit the ground running. One about Abrams I've noticed is that he isn't going to release something that is substandard, quality. He is very involved with all aspects of his movies.

The movie wasn't rushed, it was hacked after it was filmed. There are places in the film where there is meant to be more to it. It gets easy to tell after you've watched it a few times. (Okay, I've watched it quite a few times, and that's all I'll admit to.) Why did they hack it, you might ask? It wasn't integral to the movie...which I wouldn't believe for one second either. Whatever they hacked out, in most likelihood, has something to do with the next movie's them, and it would give away too much information. I think that's why we got cheated out of the Nero and the Klingon scenes. They're trying to insinuate that the next movie will be all about furthering relationships. Really, how much more broad can you get than that? That just about covers everything, except Khan. In male or female form, that character just isn't being revisited, except maybe to hear the Klingons say that they intercepted an old Earth vessel that they identified as quite possibly carrying the augment virus...and blew it to smithereens.
