No plastic kneecap or spacesuit?

I heard Shatner has a plastic hip joint that matches his v-neck sweater. ;)

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!

Leave it to Trekkies to have a 4 page argument on the technical specifications of "V-Neck" shirts.

This is one of the strangest threads I've read in quite a long time. A very long debate on fashion semantics.

And Plastic kneecaps?

Didn't the security detail in TMP have "armor ". I assume that you mean something like that?
Maybe the 2nd ugliest uniform ever on Star Trek. Probably would be very helpful if someone were tackling you but useless with phaser fire.

Its only 3 pages but I suppose this very post could make it 4. ;)
And if we want it to go on forever we just have to mention 'Constellation class'.

Can we allow Hans some leeway here? He's probably in a country where the terminology is a little different (as has already been pointed out). I should have thought of that before I started the trouble.
.

Great point! If any of my comments came out disrespectful or to seem to mock Hans may I offer my sincere apology.

I was trying to determine what was meant by plastic kneecaps... I had thought he was referring to body armor (ala TMP).

Ultimately, besides the production costs of the 60s, I suppose not having armor as part of the uniform could be the desire not to show star fleet as a "military" arm of the federation. After all, you don't normally see scientists landing on Antarctica in full body armor.

Please do not worry.

I mean the plastic kneecap. Of the variety that a skateboarder would wear. A strap on plastic kneecap for the protection of the knee.

:)

Well, I for one like the Constellation-class pajamas they wore in The Motion Picture.

We would call those "knee pads". Not sure why the Landing party would need them, unless they were planning some sort of tactical operation or engaging in extreme sports. Usually they're meeting with local officials or scanning the local flora and fauna. You know, diplomacy and exploration.

I dunno, Jim Kirk probably could have used a pair of knee pads once in a while...or maybe more often than that.

That's Starship Class. ;)

Briefly: the black T-shirts seen in "The Naked Time" were just for show. They were not really part of the costume. Their short sleeves would have made a visible line under the long sleeve of the uniform tunic.

The actors did wear sleeveless black undershirts at least some of the time, and those were either for warmth or to avoid showing skin at the waistline.

Thanks! :techman:

Kirk: It's time to shred, Spock! Don't tell me you forgot your kneepads!

Spock: Kneepads are illogical, yo. Vulcans have a second inner kneecap that protects us if we bail.

Kirk: Rad, dude!

It's almost as if you're saying Star Trek fans can argue about anything. But that couldn't be right, could it?

:guffaw::lol:

Bursting out laughing at work. That was great.
