No More Manned Space Travel for awhile

The announcement from the Obama administration to terminate funding for the NASA Manned space travel program (the follow on for the Space Shuttle) --back to the Moon & Mars.... in essence ends Manned Space Exploration for awhile...

Gee..Thanks Obama Administration

That sort of ends the hope to reaching out to the stars for awhile.

My first thought is that this really doesn't have any significant relation to Trek and will likely get locked with an admonition to take the discussion to TNZ.

However, I do think it is a really short-sighted decision, and one that is not in our best interests. Humanity needs to explore. It's in our blood. There's plenty enough waste in our government, and other ways to get deficits under control, than to cut NASA programs. But NASA is a convenient target, because people don't see it as directly benefiting them like they do with many other programs.

Hey, with the advent of Private Space travel companies like Virgin Galactic the government doesn't need to put out the money that domestic programs need now into spaceflight. They can start back up when those other guys have advanced the tech somewhat or at least created more infrastructure for them to use.
