No Merlin thread?

No what? They were all off on a quest for sure but the only one who was displaying any sense of urgency was Merlin. None of them picked up on it. Why would a servant lad brought along to be the butt of their jokes care a toss about a dragon's egg? You were right. Arthur is a dumb blonde.

Is Merlin a lucky charm, a pet or a Jester?

Cause you have to wonder where the rest of the Knights Squires are?

Although his justification for being on the quest was probably to be their cook.

All squires are servants but not all servants are squires.

I never thought I said that merlin was a Squire, but I can almost see how you might think that I had.

None of them, not even Arthur seem to have squires. Might be an interesting plot. Arthur gets a squire and Merlin has little to do. Though he might enjoy that.

I would hope that Merlin would be shown to be learning medicine and herbalism from Gauis so that he CAN take over one day. No reason to JUST rely on magic when there are other solutions.

Gauis is a sorcerer after all.

I'm not sure he is, you don't get the rest of the knights taking their servent on an important quest, and for all the "You're an idiot, Merlin." Arthur does listen to him, and hell the fact that he has any kind of relationship (calm down slash writers) at all with him suggests that, even if he doesn't realise it consciously, he knows Merlin is useful to have around.

Or maybe he does just fancy him

Although it doesn't seem it, the Knights do not live at Camelot. Okay, maybe some of them do, but it's more historically accurate that Camelot is where they work a couple days out of every month and they each have a village with a fort all of their own to look after in some corner of greater Camelot for the rest of the year.

Which is where you will find all their Squires.

I don't think there's any slash involving Arthur and Merlin since they're clearly in love. It would be like trying to introduce romance to Romeo and Juliet.

Why would their squires stay home? You can't learn the knight business staying at home. You have to go questing, dragon hunting and fair maiden rescuing.

In fairness, and he did have his reasons, it isn't that long ago that the dragon was roasting most of Camelot alive!

True... But probably the best reason NOT to hunt Dragons in the first place. They're Vengeful creatures when cornered/crossed. Kinda like Humans.

How come Merlin never rides his dragon?

Well, he can't really be seen with the dragon, can he?

Come to think of it, isn't anyone missing the dragon? Maybe I'm forgetting something, but did anyone in Camelot ever notice he's gone, that would be kind of a big deal to lose an angry dragon, no?

I thought the baby dragon was cute though  although did anyone else almost expect Jiohn Hurt to smash the egg in a crazy twist?

I really thought he might turn around and gobble up the egg in one bite.

Also, is it just me or is no one else tired of Merlin being the butt of stupid jokes and threatened busy work. It's kind of getting old. I don't mind a playful dynamic between Arthur and Merlin, but come on. Can't they mature the relationship a bit?

I'm really starting to have some issues with how they're portraying Gwaine. I mean, he starts off as this drifter with a crappy childhood who's overcome it with a sense of nobility. And along with Lancelot, he's a great way of showing just how crappy times are in Camelot before Aurthur takes over. Times are hard, gigs are difficult to get, most of them kill you within days.

And this season Gwaine's turned into an imbecile who burns his socks and almost gives their position away by crunching on an apple. WTF? :vulcan: He's drifting into the Too Stupid to Live category. We've already (supposedly) lost the most noble and courtly of all of the knights. Can't Gwaine be a little heroic before we find an amnesiac Lancelot wandering around Earth .1 looking at his burned body and wondering if he's a Cylon, er......- in a forest somewhere?

And I'm all about the good natured joking around, but the crap with the stew was just mean. Can we get some heroic behavior guys?

Although I'm still holding out hope for Percival.

Well I thought this week's was really good. Ok Arthur shouldn 't be listening to Agrivaine (who's obviously taken eevviilll lessons of Morgana) but it was a good episode about how being the prince is easy, being the king is hard. Gwen actually had something to do, as did Morgana (Katie McGrath is looking more smouldering by the week.) and there was some really good interplay between Arthur and Merlin.

Oh and I loved Lindsey Duncan's parting words to Morgana. She is definitely Uther's daughter.

It's a shame we didn't see the actual execution, or even cut away as it was happening, but guess that might have been too dark, and it's odd that the queen changed her mind so easily. And I do wish Arthur had won on his own, ok Merlin counteracting Morgana's magic so it becomes a fair fight, but then essentially Arthur would still have died if it wasn't for Merlin, which always seems to detract from Arthur's strength.

Good episode though, and next week's looks fun!
