No female lead, eh?

Wesson

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Now that the major roles have all been cast, there aparently will be no big part for a major actress. Looks like this might be a "guy" movie with no romance to get in the way of the action.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some hot alien princess/priestess/thrall with whom Kirk can get it on. This is based on TOS, after all. :D

In fact, now that you've brought it up, I demand it. I won't go to see this film if Kirk doesn't get to kiss an alien female!

Just get some little-known actress who can manage looking very nice when painted green and doesn't mangle her lines too badly... Caitlin Upton, say.

It always worked in the old days.

I'd place good money on their being a hot alien chick for Captain Kirk to get it on with.
If the writer's really do care about canon they will make it so.

The entire cast hasn't been announced yet by a long shot. Keri Russell (of Abrams's Felicity and Mission: Impossible III) has reported that she and Abrams were "trying to work something out" about a possible role in the film, but that it doesn't seem to have worked out:

Which, admittedly, is ambiguous; it could mean there was just no suitable role for her, but it could also mean that there are one or more significant female roles left to be cast and other factors got in the way.

The writers are on record as saying that they intend to show more cool Starfleet captains than just Kirk and Pike, and there is reportedly casting underway for an as-yet-unidentified "Federation Captain" character in addition to Pike. That could turn out to be a woman. In any case, there are bound to be a number of guest stars in the film who aren't pre-existing TOS characters. This is a big-budget blockbuster, after all, so it's not gonna be just seven regulars, one villain, and a bunch of redshirts.

Ahem.

Lawrence of Arabia has no female speaking roles. It's also a classic. This film will at least have women talking (unless Uhura has been reimagined as a mute).

I, for one, wouldn't be surprised if there's a romantic interest for Kirk, or Spock, or both.

I'll bet money Kirk has a romantic interest in this movie.

Wouldn't disappoint me in the least if there was no romantic plotline, as Trek is notoriously BAD in that area.

However, I can't imagine a story about Kirk without at least some hot sex...if not 'love'.

The only confirmed casting announced thusfar is the re-cast TOS crew and the film's villian. That doesn't mean there won't be other characters in the film. There's a good chance we'll see other people (either ones we're familiar with from TOS, or all-new characters). Just give them time.

There better be some decent female roles. After all, it'll be impossible to tell how convincing Pine is as Kirk until we see him on the business end of a green chick.

Wait a minute. I thought Abrams said they would respect canon. If so, there can be no female captains until the TMP era. Dr. Lester said so! Do these producers want us to go and see this movie or not?

If she is played by Jessica Alba (and wears the TOS miniskirt), I would be willing to look the other way.

I'm still hoping for Claire Danes as Carol Marcus.

That would be ridiculously HOT!

I'm a huge mark for Claire Danes.

So, which end is the business end? ;) :o

Enterprise had a female captain so unless Starfleet changed their policy after the UFP formed there might have been. I thought there were no female captains because of the social views of the 60s.

I'm certain there will be a major female lead. Pretty much impossible to make a movie without one.
