Nintendo NX / Switch Discussion

The developers claim there is no required download to play Lego City Undercover.

I would quote the relevant info, but I'm on my phone and having trouble figuring out how to highlight text.

Story here.

^^^I got the quote for you...

"The information is listed incorrectly on the packaging of LEGO City Undercover for Nintendo Switch. Players who purchase a physical copy of LEGO City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail are getting the complete game, and do not need to download additional content to enjoy the full experience. An internet connection is not required to play the game. The only internet connection suggested is to download the typical content update patch."

Players who purchase LEGO City: Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play. All players who purchase the game can download the small content update patch with an internet connection.

1 and 2 TB microSDXC cards do exist though (rare and very expensive but still) with 256GB cards out there for about £80-90 (not sure that is in dollars).

Those will fit in the card slot, greatly expanding it's storage.

There a brand called PNY that has one for $78 on Amazon, most seem to be around $100-$125.

But the system is already $300, you already need to spend more one games, then you need another $100 for decent memory and then you also need an external battery to play on the go longer.

I know, but that's really on Nintendo for not having a larger internal storage to begin with.

But there is a teardown video on youtube that goes through the full internals, and there's a modular section for the memory, with an empty upgrade slot attached. So it looks like in later models, Nintendo can slap another higher capacity memory module in there to increase it.

Until then the consumer has to pay for more storage themselves.

Yeah, it's all just Nintendo being Nintendo and fucking their fanbase without lube. There is no excuse for not having more memory in a $300 system.

Maybe it won't be an issue as Nintendo already knows that no one will be buying more than three or four games for the Switch.

Bringing the drive with you makes it less than "portable."

:techman:

Let me hook up some extra drive and an extra battery for a system that is supposed to be both a console AND a portable.

Be like if I had to download a massive game onto my 3DS, just doesn't make sense. Only time I had to was with Animal Crossing the expansion pack which was free and a welcome thing after 3 years.

Nintendo released a patch this evening for Breath of the Wild. It fixes most (but not all) of the frame rate issues in the game. It runs a lot smoother now.

So I noticed that several outlets (GameStop, Amazon, probably others) got some Switches in stock over the past few days. Seems to have only lasted a few hours--they're all gone already. No doubt most of them are being scalped on eBay.

Some probably, I wouldn't say most. Plus if Nintendo keeps this steady supply up the scalpers might give up since no one will be buying from them.

I sometimes imagine that certain rare video games and special edition items are never actually opened and played and only get traded and retraded on eBay like some kind of virtual currency like BitCoin. Probably not the case but it feels that way sometimes.

Actually, I believe that it actually happens. It already does with action figures, so I don't see why it would be such a long shot that it happens to games as well. There's one guy on Youtube I follow that collects game boxes. He'll sometimes have multiple boxes for different versions of a game.

I'm a big LEGO fan and there are adults with tens of thousands of dollars in LEGO that will never be built or played with, or even sold. Just sits in a box collecting dust because it's a 'collection'. Very odd to me. So I bet video games are the same.

While I still agree with much of the skepticism surrounding the console's longevity, I am starting to see and read things which may improve the situation. There are rumours that the games which are so far available for Virtual Console will be available on the launch of the service rather than re-releasing them in trickles. Although that should have been the case for the Wii U and the 3DS (processor power permitted), the rumour suggests Nintendo MIGHT be learning by their mistakes. But, that's a rumour.

Plus, we will have some decent games by December: Odyssey, Kart, Siberia, Payday 2, Rime, Skyrim, and (of course) Virtual Console. I'm still not sold but if those things are in place by 2018, i'll more than likely make a Christmas purchase. Until then, what the hell are Switch gamers up to?! Re-re-re-re-re-playing Zelda?

Well, I haven't finished playing it the first time, yet. It's a huge game. MK deluxe will already be here by the time I'm finished with it. And Splatoon 2 (basically the reason I bought the console) is scheduled for not too long after that.

Standalone docks for $90. OK, Nintendo.

For those who may not know: the dock is just some cheap plastic and a couple ports and the wires to support them. There is absolutely nothing in there that would make it worth $90.

If we are to take the Joy-Con and dock prices seriously, the portable unit itself is worth $130!
