Then we get the little bit with Draal calling for Zathras... it's a small thing you might even miss the first time you watch the show. But if you don't... wow!

I don't understand what the significance of this line is, can you please help explain?

Re: Season 3 dates

It's going to be really hard to hold to the schedule now. Season three really picks up the pace and is so consistently good. Glad to see a few four episode weeks.

"Divided Loyalties"
--We get the return of Lyta and the exit of Talia. Good and good. The actess who played Talia was the worst of the series--almost painful to watch. I really hate it when people are cast due to looks versus talent.
--I can't believe they just let Talia go! Isn't there the possibility she knows things about their little group after rooming with Susan?
--How much did Kosh know about Talia? Did he know about her way back when he "hired" her to sit in on his negotiations back in season one?
--Lyta knows much about Kosh.

Very solid episode. Plenty of intrigue and suspense. 4/5

Re: Season 3 dates

"The Long Twilight Struggle"
--Sheridan and Delenn visit Draal on Epsilon 3 while the Centauri plan an attack on the Narn homeworld
--G'Kar figures out the Centauri plans, but no one will listen to him--tragic results as the Narn are forced to surrender and G'Kar is forced to ask for asylum
--G'Kar makes a powerful speech about freedom to the league of non-aligned worlds. Too bad no one listens to his warnings that the Centauri won't be satisfied with just Narn.
--It is amazing how G'Kar has transformed from an angry ambassador to a wise and controlled leader.

Another very strong episode. 4/5

Re: Season 3 dates

"Comes the Inquisitor"
--G'Kar's passion is so compelling. He is easily the most powerful and sypathetic character on the show at this point. Katsulas' acting is amazing--he truly has become the character.
--It's great to see Garibaldi helping G'Kar out
--The inquisitor is very well played--even if he is completely unfair. What does he really want of Delenn? Couldn't he have tested her willingness to make great personal sacrifice in another way? Torture seems so pointless. People will do or say anything to make the torture stop. It's actually one of the worst ways of gathering accurate intelligence, yet on TV and film it's the first thing we see when someone wants information.
--Sheridan is willing to give his life for Delenn and vise versa. They've sure grown close.

Fantastic episode. 4.5/5

Re: Season 3 dates

"The Fall of Night"
--What a great finale. We get Earth signing a treaty with Centauri--a sign of things to come for sure, Sheridan helping the Narn while Lance and the Night Watch are getting the treaty ready, an assasination attempt on Sheridan, and Kosh showing himself in order to save Sheridan.
--It's very interesting that all the races see Kosh differently. Is JMS saying the Vorlons pose as gods?
--Keffer gets the shadows on video and dies in the process
--Sheridan must apologize to the Centauri in order to keep his job. How tough would that be? It be hard enough staying with the job with what EarthGov is doing, but to have to apologize to a world guilty of such atrocities would be very hard.

5/5--outstanding episode.

Re: B5

DIVIDED LOYALTIES

Is there somebody on B5 who has been programmed to betray the station? Lyta Alexander, the first telepath we saw on B5 2 years ago, says she can find out who.

I really enjoyed most of this episode. It’s nice to see Talia leave :) I liked Lyta’s hair much more than the pilot.

There was an episode recently where Lennier spent two days creating a dinner for himself, Delenn, and Sheridan. At this point I started thinking, “oh no, I really hope they’re not trying to make a love story here between Sheridan and Delenn.” We had an Earth dinner together, then a Minbari dinner, he tells her to “next time call me John”, and now a conversation between them where she touches his hand and she skips away gleefully. Crap we don’t really want to see that Delenn has a thing for him! Well I don’t anyway… please no.

Anyone out there have think there was some girl-girl action going on in this episode? I thought for sure Talia, telling Ivanova how much she implicitly trusts here, was going to lean in for a kiss. Talia then just gets out of the shower when sharing Ivanova’s quarters. And, we see that Talia reaches over when waking in bed, as if to cuddle the person in bed next to her. The next day she then says “I woke up last night and you were gone.” Hmmm so these two were sharing a bed, eh? Heh heh heh. Maybe that was the director’s cut and they decided to lose that angle to the story, because this angle seems to appear in many scenes! Or, maybe Talia was reaching for the gun that she tries to shoot Lyta with.

Ivanova was just stupid in asking Talia about Lyta. Why let on anything about Lyta when it’s supposed to be a secret? Especially when it’s about a rogue telepath.

Very interesting revelation about Ivanova. It didn’t even occur to me until I saw her in Sheridan’s quarters, about to reveal the fact to him. Makes perfect sense, why she’s been so against telepaths probing her mind and why she’d quit over it. It’s not just how her mother was treated.

Trek connections:
Jesus Salvador Trevino, director, has directed 3 episodes of DS9 and 5 episodes of VOY.

Re: B5

THE LONG, TWILIGHT STRUGGLE

Sheridan meets The Mimbari in the Planet Machine, while the Centauri invade the Narn homeworld.

Good episode, really shaking up the established setting. Londo sure was fired up when reading the Centauri demands of the conquered Narn. So sad to see them overtaken completely, and G’Kar now without his ambassadorial position.

A note about the music in this episode—it was really distracting at one point in the episode; it was just after Sheridan’s shower at the top of the hour.

Omahastar already pointed out that John Schuck plays the Minbari named Draal, the heart of the planet-machine, and was previously played by Louis Turenne in “A Voice In The Wilderness, Part 2”. W. Morgan Sheppard, the Narn Warmaster, was previously on B5 as the Soul Hunter in S1’s “Soul Hunter”.

Trek connections:
- W. Morgan Sheppard portrayed the Narn that G’Kar spoke to (Warmaster G’Sten). He played Dr. Ira Graves in TNG’s “The Schizoid Man”, and Qatai in the VOY episode “Bliss”.
- John Schuck has appeared in many incarnations of Trek. First as the Klingon Ambassador in Star Treks IV and VI, then as Legate Parn in the DS9 episode “The Maquis, Part II”, then as Chorus in VOY’s “Muse”, followed by Antaak in ENT’s season 4 episodes “Affliction” and “Divergence”.
- Rif Hutton, the ISN reporter, was apparently a Klingon guard in ST: Generations.

Re: B5

COMES THE INQUISITOR

Kosh arranges to have Delenn questioned by a mysterious human, while G’Kar starts to lead a rebellion.

I really didn’t like this episode much. Although the part of Sebastian was played quite well, I didn’t really care about his testing of Delenn, and ultimately Sheridan. It was interesting to see G’Kar begin a resistance; I am surprised that he didn’t first spend an episode wondering what to do next with his life.

Near the end of the episode, there is a point where one of Sheridan’s lines has been redubbed from what he actually says. Per imdb: “When Sheridan confronts Sebastian linking him to the Jack the Ripper murders in London's East End, he is very clearly saying "West End"; this is because in the original broadcast he said "West End" due to a mistake by the writer. The line was later dubbed over.”

Trek connections:
- The fellow who arranges for G’Kar’s weapons, named Mr. Chase, was played by Jack Kehler. He was in the DS9 episode “Babel” as Jaheel.
- Craig Thomas apparently played a human in this episode, and was also a Klingon in Star Trek: TMP.
- This is the 3rd episode of B5 directed by Mike Vejar. He also directed 1 ep of TNG, 13 eps of VOY, and 10 eps of ENT.

Re: B5

THE FALL OF NIGHT

The crew of the last Narn heavy cruiser asks for amnesty on Babylon 5, while a representative from the Ministry of Peace arrives to investigate the Centauri situation.

Not really specific to this episode, but I wonder why the opening credits list Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik at the end as a “With” credit, instead of “Starring”. Bill Mumy, Mary Kay Adams, and the guy who plays Warren Keffer are in the main cast, but Londo and G’Kar are not? <raises eyebrow like Spock>

I liked this episode. Nightwatch has definitely broadened their scope and is now a “report on your loved ones” association. A wise Jedi once said, “fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering…”

Leave it to Garibaldi to state the obvious, “He’s not the Londo I used to know anymore.”

I didn’t realize this episode was a film noir theme; “It was black… jet black. <puffs a cigarette> A shade of black so deep, your eye just catches it….” It was quiet that night in space. Real quiet. Quieter still, when I was fried to smithereens. I liked the news piece at the end, but thought it questionable that ISN got their hands on it so quickly.

Poor G’Kar, spying from the bushes… :( I laughed upon seeing that though :D

We never did find out what apology Sheridan gave!! We see him rehearsing two different types, and never see what actually happened, argh!

Trek connections:
- Robin Sachs, who played the Narn captain Na’Kal, was in the VOY episode “The Void” as General Valen.
- John Vickery played Neroon for two episodes previously in B5, and here plays Mr. Welles. He was in TNG as Hagan in “Night Terrors”, Gul Rusot in three 7th-season episodes of DS9, and Orak in ENT’s “Judgment”.

The highest "prestige position" in a credit sequence is obviously whoever gets first billing; but the second highest is to be listed last, using a "With ___ as" or "And ___ as" credit.

Since Katsulas and Jurassik both recieve a "With" credit, it alternates every year which of them gets listed last.

Another example is from Buffy the Vampire Slayer----in season 2, the credits were

Sarah Michelle Gellar
Nicolas Brendan
Alyson Hannigan
David Boreanaz
And Anthony Stewart Head as Giles

Once ASH left the main cast in season 6, Alyson Hannigan's credit was upgraded:

Sarah Michelle Gellar
Nicolas Brendan
Emma Caufield
Michelle Trachtenberg
James Marsters
And Alyson Hannigan as Willow

Oh yeah. They were at the very least connecting on that level, even if it wasn't physical yet.

Thanks, Lindley! I never realized that. I had previously thought that any "And... so-and-so" tacked on at the end was for semi-regular cast members.

Re: B5

The Fall of Night

This was a good way to wrap up the season. The Centauri are now attacking other races, not just the Narn. That was to be expected. And then the ministry of peace shows up and they (try to) make you think they'll be useful. But of course, they're the exact opposite. And man the nightwatch is getting on my nerves. I liked what Ivanova said to the nightwatch guy, hehe. :)

Then the Narn cruiser shows up. Man that was cool. And then the fight with the Centauri. Lotz of fun. B5 packs quite a punch, doesn't it? :D
Anyway, the first time I watched this ep I was actually surprised that the Centauri ship got destroyed. It was very un-Trek like. Not that I'm complaining. :)

The last part with the assasination attempt on Sheridan was good too. I wonder if they ever caught the Centauir that planted the explosives. And while kinda cool, the whole Kosh revealing himself thingy was a bit hokey.

I did really enjoy the end with Ivanova narrating. And I'm definately looking forward to S3. :D

Re: B5

I've got 3 of the 4 episodes for this week watched so far, Matters of Honour, Convictions, and A Day in the Strife. Passing Through Gethsemane still to come.

SEASON 3

MATTERS OF HONOR

A VIP from Earth questions B5 personnel about the mysterious ship that Keffer took pictures of, while a Ranger named Marcus arrives asking for help retrieving Rangers stationed on a distant planet.

A new season, and a new set of opening credits. Ivanova this time provides the narration, with the familiar “Last, best hope for peace.” Then adds, “We failed.” Talia, Na’Toth, and Keffer are gone, and we have additions of Jason Carter / Marcus Cole and Jeff Conaway / Zack Allan.

Wow what a great episode, I liked it every which way. Marcus coming to Sheridan for help, the group getting a new Minbari spaceship to save the Rangers, and the Earth VIP following up with B5 personnel on the Shadows’ ship. Although, once the blockade devices are removed, Sheridan says that the Rangers now have their opening. Just damn lucky I guess that the Shadow ship didn’t try to attack the fleeing ships that they went there to obliterate?

I thought that the ship that carried Marcus’s ship had design styles similar to Serenity, most notably the rear end of the craft. Here is a screenshot.

I liked when Marcus transformed his magic staff into a shorter one, the physical switcheroo of props was very well done!

I had trouble with this exchange of dialogue: Sheridan – “Delenn, what else can this ship do?” Delenn—“All in good time, all in good time.” Hello, you want Sheridan to captain this ship and save these guys, but not even going to fill him in on the capabilities of the very vehicle you provide to him to use? Cmon people. That’s not likely at all, just bad storytelling.

Trek Connections:
- Tucker Smallwood (heh heh Beavis, he said smallwood) played Mr. Endawi from Earth. He is most recognizable from Trek as Admiral Bullock in the VOY episode “In the Flesh” where Species 8472 replicated Starfleet Academy. He was also a member of the Xindi in many ENT episodes. Non-Trek, he was in every episode of Space: Above and Beyond.
- Kitty Swink played the Senator at the end of the episode, who is the wife of Armin Shimerman (Quark on DS9). She was in two episodes of DS9, Rozahn in “Sanctuary” and Luaran in “Tacking into the Wind”.

Re: B5

CONVICTIONS

A convention of mad bombers arrive on Babylon 5 and G’Kar wasn’t informed. He and Londo trade insults while trapped in an elevator.

While this episode doesn’t progress the overall story arc of the Shadows and the coming war, it was a suspenseful episode. Particularly interesting were the restrictions placed on personnel after the bombings; eerie reminders of the aftermath of 9/11 or the London subway bombings, although this episode aired years before those events actually occurred.

I really enjoyed G’Kar and Londo trying to pin the bombings on each other, and in particular his dialogue, “Oh no, of course not, I suppose we’ve had a convention of mad bombers arrive here at the station!”

G’Kar’s reactions to Londo being trapped in the elevator with him were fantastic! The phrase “up yours” seems to date the show a bit (does anybody at all even use this anymore? I never hear it.), but was very funny nonetheless. Just loved G’Kar’s attitude here.

Trek connections:
- Patrick Kilpatrick played a character in this episode named Robert Carlson (I don’t remember who this was, though). He has appeared in DS9 as Reese in “The Siege of AR-558” (which also featured Bill Mumy), as Maje Razik in VOY’s “Initiations”, and as Assan in VOY’s “Drive”.
- Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played the security officer Morishi in this episode. He apparently was in TNG’s “Encounter at Farpoint” as ‘Mandarin Bailiff’.
- Mike Vejar directed the episode, a frequent director of DS9, VOY, and ENT.

Re: B5

A DAY IN THE STRIFE

The crew of B5 must answer a list of questions from an alien probe, and another Narn tries to take G’Kar’s place on the station. Meanwhile, back in MedLab, Franklin is using stimulants and has Garibaldi worried about him.

An okay episode. Enjoyable. I enjoyed the crew having to deal with trying to gather the information for the probe. What a gamble! With no backup plan, Sheridan orders to not communicate the information to the probe. I liked that Dr. Franklin and his inoculating himself with stimulants wasn’t just brought up for this one episode, and that it has been seen a few times previous.

I didn’t care too much for G’Kar’s storyline in this episode. Poor G’Kar, he’s just getting the short stick all over the place, isn’t he. Ambassador? NO! Resistance group? NO! Stay on the station? NO!

“Tech #1” aka David Corwin sure got a haircut… and awww did Vir ever look SO sad when he was leaving the station. Londo seems to be doing the best thing, so why is Vir so sad though. He doesn’t like the position he’s in and what he has to deal with, but he’s like a “bad dog” when he slinks away to his transport.

So this Narn was apparently the one that Sheridan was kidnapped with back in “All Alone in the Night”. At one point Sheridan says they were kidnapped by “The Stribe”. Since when did this race get a name? I thought they were unknown.

Speaking of the Narn, his character’s name here is Ta’Lon. He was played by the same actor (Marshall Teague) in “All Alone in the Night”, but did not have a name in the prior episode.

Trek connections:
- Stephen Macht, aka Na’Far, was in DS9’s “The Circle” and “The Siege” as a character named General Krim. And, according to IMDB, he had auditioned for, and was given very serious consideration for, the role of Jean-Luc Picard on TNG.
- Marshall Teague (Ta’Lon) played a Jem’Hadar named Temo’Zuma in the DS9 episode “Hippocratic Oath”, and Hulak in VOY’s “Distant Origin”.
- Michael Bailey Smith played one of the Narn, whose character is named G’Dok. He was also credited as “Alien #1” in VOY’s “Basics, Part II”.
