Question: Are we trying to keep this Niners-only, or would it be all right to mention this thread in SF/F, just to make sure everyone interested in participating knows about it?

I knew about it already I am just slow and watching three eps a week is too much I have other things to do.So if nobody wants me to post here say so down below .

*clearing throat*

You damn well better post, missy. That's an order.

Yikes! I'm not a niner--although I do love DS9 (own the DVD's and watched it during its original run--have seen it 4 times in its entirety). I like to browse many of the different forums here and was tempted by the opportunity to watch B5 "with" others. While I understand the idea of having a "small group of friends" so-to-speak, I'd love to continue to participate. If it's a niner thing then that's cool as well.

No, you misunderstand my question. I don't want to exclude anyone from this thread.

I was simply asking if Vash or others had an objection to my mentioning it in SF/F, to bring in anyone who otherwise might not enter the DS9 forum.

Judging by what you've said, I think I would easily consider you a Niner. ;)

The War Prayer
Nice buildup to the Homeguard storyline hidden in previous eps.Shaal Mayan is a favorite character of mine even though she only appeared once and was mentioned later.I wish they had managed to include her character in a later season.Overall A cause of Shaal Mayan. The Londo story in there was filler and didn't make much sense to be honest.

Parliament of Dreams
I liked seeing the different religious beliefs displayed. The contrast of difference between the centauri religious festival and the minbari rebirth was as different as night and day .The Minbari were so eloquent and dare I say graceful versus the orgy feast was laughable.Cakarine Sakai I have never liked the character fortunately she only appears three times in season one and isn't seen again. The G'kar thing might have been better if they had some kind of leadup or something different coming up to this ep .Cause it made me wonder if D'Rog had a family and they were also seeking revenage against G'kar for his crime ?The only answer of course is in a book called Blood Oath.I would like to have seen a little more about how G'kar rose to the third circle seen G'kar seems like such a ruthless indiviual in S1 .Overall B

Mind War

I love Bester and Walter's portayal was so chilling .The story however was falwed with Talia and Ironheart I am to be believe that they are to have had a romance at Psi Corp when the two actors portraying the characters was just so off .They didn't give us any background info like a flashback might have helped .Sakai's in this one to another downwer.Oveall B a very low B and it's because of Bester.

^ I love Koenig's portrayal of Bester. It's so different from his usual roles and really shows what he's capable of given the chance. And boy, is he creepy... :scream:

^^^Most definately Walter's portrayal is very good and showcases his skills as an actor especially in later seasons when more of the character's personality comes out.

EDIT I think I have caught up with everyone else.

Not a big fan of B5, so I'll have to sit this one out. But I'm posting because I wanted to say that if we ever decide to unite around Battlestar Galactica too, that would be great. :D

Ok, I've been pretty busy the past week, so I'm pretty behind and only now just got done watching "Infection". Yeah, most of the episode is pretty craptastic, but there are a few halfway decent things here and there:

- The establishing of IPX.

- Ivanova's hilarious "pain" one-liner.

- The scene with Garibaldi and Sinclair in his quarters towards the end.

- Earth's confiscation of the artifacts for research foreshadowing things to come.

- Sinclair's answer to the interview question.

And on a related note to the last three points, I always find it interesting how soon the climax comes in most B5 episodes and how much time is spent on concluding scenes. Very different from how Trek usually does it.

Since I'm so far behind the times I'll try to keep this brief.

Mind War

I'll join the chorus of those intrigued by how terrific Koenig is, and the tremendous contrast with Chekov. I'll also take this opportunity to state that I loathe Bester (<span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>I always wanted to see him die slowly, painfully and hideously</span><hr /></span> – a tribute to both the writing and acting involved. And the Ironheart plot continues the theme of telepaths being rigidly policed and controlled...and the price involved in such ruthless control. It also demonstrates the lengths to which Psi Corps is prepared to go to...well, improve their position is as good a way as any to put it, based on what we see here. <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>Ivanova's hostility is interesting, isn't it?</span><hr /></span>

"No one here is exactly what he appears." Probably the single greatest understatement in the entire series. :D G'Kar's actions in this episode are an indication of the decent being beneath the arrogant, angry exterior. His eloquence in explaining what Sakai encountered is merely the beginning....

<span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>Interesting, too, how Ironheart "evolves" in light of later events...</span><hr /></span>

The War Prayer

Personal bias: I like D.C. Fontana's work. This episode is no exception.

Humans certainly haven't undergone a Trek-style evolution in this series. They're much the same as they are now, although where the Minbari are concerned it's perhaps more understandable. Having said I like Fontana's work it's disappointing that it was so obvious that the blast from Ivanova's past was the Really Evil Wicked Baddie ™.

The Centauri subplot – amusing enough, but not much more than that. The tie-in to the main plot was resonably done, though.

1000 years...turns up a lot, doesn't it?

"We take no interest in the affairs of others." Yeah, sure, Kosh – whatever. :D G'Kar the rabble-rouser...not for the last time.... And Vir – still another character with more depth than it may appear....

Two decent episodes which continue to build the B5 universe.

Parliament of Dreams:
I liked this episode a lot the first time, and still like it on a third viewing for all the reasons already mentionned. A strange thing in that episode though is no Narn beliefs are exposed (I know it's remedied later but I still find it weird especially since the Narn b-plot isn't that much interesting).
My favorite parts are the three ceremonies especially Londo's communing with his innerself, G'Kar switching his fruit with Ivanova's, and Earth's "main belief system".
An interesting note about that last scene is that it somehow strike a chord within me, it deeply moves me each time I see it while I'm not a religious person at all.

Mind War:
Not one of my favorites. The handling of the plot and some of the acting is way to OTT and cheesy. The creation of Bester and the few info about the Psi-Corps are the only redeeming quality that I can find.

War Prayer:
Like Mind War it introduces interesting background detail in the shows but it does it through a cheesy plot. The bad guys aren't very interesting either, you know they are bad guys the first second you see them and they're too much 2d to really drive the plot (ironically Jeffrey "Bad Guy" Sinclair is the most interesting "bad guy" persona in the episode).

Question: Are we trying to keep this Niners-only, or would it be all right to mention this thread in SF/F, just to make sure everyone interested in participating knows about it?

Lindley, I think anyone is welcome, as long as they read and agree to my initial post in this thread - desire to follow along and participate in the group on an ongoing basis, no bashing of B5 or DS9, no arguments over who 'stole' from who, etc. As long as they want to participate in an ongoing productive discussion of B5, they are welcome.

I was pretty specific with Neroon and Bonz that this would be a group that was watching the episodes together and sharing insights as we went along. It's not a 'general' B5 thread, because if it were, it would belong in the SFF forum.

The idea for this group came about in the DS9 forum, and originally, I don't think it ever occurred to us that it would be anyone but 'just us' - the folks who regularly post in this forum. Everyone in SFF is so wrapped up in the current shows on the air that truthfully, I don't think we thought the interest would be there for anyone but us.

However, it is ALWAYS enjoyable to have guys like you and OmahaStar in a group watching B5. You guys are very knowledgeable and enthuiastic with regard to the show and add great insights. And so I was *very* pleased when I saw you guys had found this thread and wanted to participate. :)

If others want to join and participate as you guys have, they are certainly welcome. If you know anyone like that, you are welcome to PM them or whatever. I'm not sure we want to come right out and 'advertize' in SFF, however, because I don't want anyone making any complaints about how this thread should be moved to SFF. The group of people who originally signed on to do this wanted to do it *together as a group of friends in this forum*, and it was never our intent to 'take away business' from SFF. Nor do I want that line blurred in any way, cus I'm just not in the mood to spend a week in M.A. fielding complaints over this.

So...long story short, others are welcome to join the group, but only under the specific terms of this thread as discussed in my initial post. :)

Please see my post to Lindley above. You are most certainly welcome to participate. DS9 does not have to be your favorite show on earth or anything in order to join this group. You just have to be willing to hang out with a bunch of Niners. :p

Please forgive my spamming this thread, gang. :p However, I want to clarify this issue completely, so there will be no confusion. :)

Well, considering I'm a Fiver primarily, it sure seems inclusive rather than exclusive. Vash was pretty welcoming to me, after all, and how many posts have I contributed to in DS9 before this?

So yeah ... if they wanna join, let em ... They'll have a few episodes to catch up on, but as long as they at least like DS9, it shouldn't be a problem.

Now, if it's someone who likes B5 and is only coming in to bash DS9, then I'd say this project is not for them.

See what I mean?

This is *exactly* right, OmahaStar.

If a person wants to join the group and participate positively to the discussion on an ongoing basis, they are more than welcome. However, this is not the place for a DS9 basher (or a B5 basher, for that matter) to come in and start arguments - *especially* of the DS9 v. B5 variety! ;)

The specific goal of this group is to get a gang of folks together who want to watch B5 as a group and participate in a meaningful ongoing discussion of the episodes and issues related to them in good faith.
