I still love these pictures iconic !!!!

Then the "in-between" design has a tall black collar and straight-edged rank stripes on the cuffs. Worn only for embarrassing publicity stills. :)

I remember reading somewhere these shirts were from WNMHGB with the black collar sewn over top the ribbed collars.

Interesting, I'd never heard they just had the black sewn over. Didn't Spock also wear the tall collar for the first couple of episodes?

Personally, I like the tall collars more.

Beautiful. I had forgotten about the Kirk picture also on the AMT box. Could that also be one of the promo pics with an "in between" uniform?

I've always loved the "in between" sessions. I just wish Kirk holding the 1701 was part of the session!

This is the exact box of the second Enterprise kit I built. Named it Lexington. I wanted this image bad, thank you. :bolian:
And the collages you posted have some things I've never seen.

Some of the collage scans are from the Gold Key comic covers.
The b&w one where Kirk is holding up a skinny microphone makes me think Desilu found some space props and set pieces from the 1930s.
Since Star Trek's sets had already been built by the time Shatner came aboard, I wonder why they didn't use them for the publicity shots.

I do like that pic with Kirk, Spock and Rand giving signals with those flashlights. Silly, but fun. It's odd, from those photos you think Rand would have been part of that trinity but right after that Bones quickly pushed her aside and took his place among the three.

What do you mean by "in between costume?" Was it actually worn in the series or only for promotion?

You start out with "The Cage" costume: Spock in blue tunic with no black collar, and a science insignia.

Then comes the "Where No Man" version: Spock and Kirk both in chartreuse with no black collar, and both have command insignias.

Then the "in-between" design has a tall black collar and straight-edged rank stripes on the cuffs. Worn only for embarrassing publicity stills.

Then comes the S1 uniform, with just a few tweaks and adjustments across the first few episodes. :)

Got it! Thank you :)

From what I understand, these photos were taken after the pilot sets were torn down, but before the series sets (and props and costumes) were completed.

These are great pictures, thank you to everyone that posted them.

I love the shots with the long-lost three foot Enterprise model and the only-used-once phaser rifle. Oh, and Grace Lee Whitney with her hair down...hubba hubba..
