Nicknames

When I was a toddler my father would say I was pretty. I pronounced it as Pippy, so Pippy and Pip stuck as nicknames until I threw a massive temper tantrum when I was about 10 and the nickname was dropped. I was always embarrassed by the nickname and no one outside the family knew it.

.
One of my ex-girlfriends had the nickname "Muff" among her family. her sister gave it to her when they were kids because she always had a hand muff on. It was odd the first time I called her and heard "Muff, the phone's for you!". Wasn't sure I called the right number. Of course some of our more ribald friends had fun with this nickname's other connotations. Never got in the habit of calling her "Muff" or any nicknames, though. I always used her full name, which was three syllables long.

Aside from the obvious: Jen or Jenny(ALWAYS with a 'y' NOT an 'ie'), I was sometimes called Niff or Niffer(the other part of Jennifer).
Never had anything else.
My son is 'spud' sometimes cause I used to carry him around like-you guessed it-a sack of potatoes. :)
Daughter used to be called Bebe by her brother cause he couldn't say Libby, and we used to call her Swee Pea. Now she is Libs :)

My first name is Ken, and throughout childhood I was known as Kenny. That really grated on me in high school so I asked people to stop. Currently my wife and a few old childhood friends call me Kenny, but no one else does.

As a counselor at Boy Scout camp, I was nicknamed Scooter by one of the other counselors. No reason; he just felt I needed a nickname and that was what he came up with. I was known as Scooter among any number of Scouts for a few years. (His first idea was Hooter; I think I dodged a bullet there.)

When Mrs. Silvercrest and I were dating she compared me to a turtle because (as I say to others) I'm stubborn, one-tracked, and slow. I don't actually use that as a nickname, but I've adopted a turtle motif in a lot of things and I've made a collection of small turtle statuettes. Occasionally I refer to myself as a turtle and once in a while someone calls me one.

After Mrs. Silvercrest developed some health problems, we agreed that she would be "snail" because it was the only "cute animal" that's slower than a turtle.

I call my daughter Sweet Pea. Far more often than her real name.

:techman:

A plague on both your houses! Now I have that Tommy Roe song going through my head.

Oh, Sweet Pea
Come on and dance with me
Come on, come on,
come on and dance with me

Oh, Sweet Pea
Won't you be my girl
Won't you, won't you,
won't you be my girl
