Nicholas Cage

My wife loves the guy. She would leave me for him if he ever offered to take her...oh well. But I noticed that not many of my friends like Nick Cage..where as I think, overall, I do.

I think the National Treasure movies have been good. I am a history buff so like them for that, but I like him in them too.

I liked him in Raising Arizona and A Vampire's Kiss. I liked him in the Rock and Con Air. I liked him city of angels. I actually liked the movie NEXT. And I liked him in Guarding Tess.

The only movies of his I have seen that I didn't like were Knowing, Ghost Rider and..hmm...thats it. Alot of his movies, I admit, I haven't seen. But those that I have, I have enjoyed. Nicholas Cage gets a thumbs up in my book. Though, I'll kill the jack-ass if he comes around my wife!!

Oh.and I put this in this forum because most of the movies I have seen of his are on the 'fanastic' side of the believabiliy meter

He's not bad, but he's a fan that kind of surprises you in many ways. His love of comic books is well known and he even named is son Kal-El.

Nicolas Cage can be a great actor when the material suits him (i.e. The Weather Man, Lord of War, Raising Arizona). But far too often, he saddles himself with complete garbage (i.e. Next). And that's only his fault.

I've always liked Cage. Yes, sometimes his Good Script Detector is way off the mark (The Wicker Man anyone?) but he has a unique, quirky likable persona. He's just as home in a Coen Bros movie like Raising Arizona as a Michael Bay movie like The Rock. His offbeat persona elevates his more conventional heroes like the guy in Con Air ('Leave the bunny alone!') and adds layers to the likes of Ghost Rider (drinking glassfulls of jellybeans? Not too many actors could pull that off).

I think he would have been all wrong for Superman but his presence in a movie will generally make me want to at least know a little more about it.

Seriously, I liked him in Face/Off but haven't seen much else that he's done. Raising Arizona is probably my least favorite Coen brothers film for some reason (though I've never seen the Lady Killers which I hear is pretty bad).

edit:
Oh, Leaving Las Vegas was pretty good. Just remembered that one.

Apparentally he's the sorceror in the live-action Sorcerer's Apprentice. His sorceror looks like a reject from a Tim Burton project rather than anything resembling the original animated film, though.

Cage is also the spokesman for some kind of Japanese game-the commercials have to be seen to be believed:

To be fair, that seems par for the course when it comes to American actors doing commercials for Japanese products. I think it's just a cultural thing, because I sure don't get it.

Yeah, most are a bit odd, especially those done by Schwartzenegger and Charlize Theron. Interestingly, there are some which are tame such as the Lux makeup commercials.

He's acted the same way in a slew of recent movies lately (The Wicker Man, Bangkok Dangerous, Knowing). His last good movie was The Weather Man, back in 2005. Wait. Lord of War was really good.

He gets a lot of flack for starring in a lot of big, dumb, blockbusters, but I can forgive him for just about anything because of how much I love his performance in "Adaptation" and some of my favourite fun action movies from childhood ("The Rock", "Con Air", and "Face/Off").

I forgot about Adaptation and Face/Off. He does go a bit over-the-top in his acting, but I like it. He once said somewhere that he used shatner as a template to his acting. You can definately see that!
