Nice and Nasty Celebrities...

Look at how fans took offence to William Shatner's joke about "getting a life" or how many take serious offence at Kirstie Ally for not being a fan of Trek, as if that should matter to an actor when taking a job. :wtf:

William Shatner being in a light hearted sketch really alienated some of his fans? I know Shatner has a deserved reputation of being a pompous premadonna, but on the other hand he gives the impression of being a gentle and sensitive person.
Oh yes, the Trekkie dorks had an absolute FIT over that. He had a valid point, "It's *JUST* a show!" Freaking Trek dorks made it into a religion, which is why you get some of these basement living 'tards asking technical questions about the Warp Induction Manifold or how that Peace Conference Accords couldn't have been negotiated due to.....

Here's another nice celebrity:

John Tesh.

He played a concert in Omaha a few years ago. One of the best I've ever been to. He even signed my ticket stub (which I still have!). I told him how much I liked his CD-ROM; damn, I wish I could still play it.

I think I might have even said qapla'! (re: his appearance on TNG as a Klingon) :)

People like to rag on him all the time, most only know him because of his hosting Entertainment Tonight. But he is an *awesome* musician. He's been in music for decades, much longer than he's been a TV host.

People trying to apply real life engineering and science to made up shit in my mind totally ruined the relationship between Trekkie and Warsie fandom, with rabid debaters taking it far too seriously and personally.

:guffaw:

TedShatner10, I happen to think Old Willy is a very funny guy. He got a great sense of humor.

Yes, I also find it very disturbing when people take comments about a TV show very personally. It's very questionable when the lines between fiction & reality become blurred. You just wonder how they interact in other social areas. Kinda sad, really.

Starship Polaris. He won't return my calls and I'm pretty sure he hit me once back in the 80's... at a Passaic "Alf" convention :klingon:

Dean Stockwell was one of the nicest people I've ever met. Scott Baio was very gracious and thoughtful. George Sidney was a hilarious old man. Tony Curtis was nice one night (complimented my complexion), then a bit stand-offish the next. I've learned that film festivals and independent film screenings are extremely fun and awesome!

Kenny Baker was cool, but didn't get to really talk to him; it was an autograph session at a little bookstore in Bakersfield, and they had us sit, give him the photo that we had to buy for him to autograph, give him our name, then smile for the camera, and that was it.

I almost met Buzz Aldrin. He was doing a commemoration speech at Silver Dollar City for opening day back in the mid-90s, and my parents dragged us off to another part of the park before he was finished.

:guffaw:Reading that i'm already scared to look into the "trek tech" section to see people trying to work out warp drive physics and their manual's on their nightstand

Has anyone here met Scott Bakula? I keep hearing that he's one of the nicest actors ever to do Trek (or anything else).

Geek alert: When I was in college, QL was just starting out. I saw him on the news one morning when he said he wanted to do an episode where he leaps in as the guy who puts the last segment in the Arch (since Bakula is from St. Louis...a suburb, actually). And what do I start doing? Hanging out down by the Arch, hoping I'd catch a glimpse of filming. Pathetic, innit?
