NHL Discussion - 2009-2010 Season

Alright folks: Prediction time! Guess next year's Winter Classic(s).

US: Avalanche @ Kings (in Dodger Stadium)
CA: Canucks @ Maple Leafs (in the Blue Jays' stadium)

Can't see a game at Dodger Stadium- even if they were able to put down ice, it'd probably turn to slush soon after.

I heard that the Wild are pushing for an outdoor game at the new Target Field next year, so that's my prediction.
Too tired. Left off this. --> ;)
Though that pre-season game in Vegas proves it could be done. Obviously, it would in Coors Field.

I could see Minnesota hosting it. Not many other teams that really jump out at me that could host a game in the Western US. Detroit and Chicago are presumably out. Coumbus and St. Louis are about it. Colorado is the only one of those teams with any level of hype around them.

This just in: Bruins sign a pact with Satan.

(Dammit, Miro. Just sign with New Jersey already so we can make the obvious jokes!)

WHOO Bruins!

I sympathize with the Cadians who want a second outdoor game. Sad thing is, to lure in casual US viewers you need at least one US team. That said, I don't like the idea of multiple Winter Classics every year. I'm fine, though, with a second Winter Classic if it doesn't become a regular thing. The NHL seems to be leaning that way, too.

Just Great 50,000+ Obnoxious Laughs Fans at Rogers Center (AKA Sky Dome) to see their team loose, still that would be the one to watch.

Looks like the Wild are aiming for a 2012 Winter Classic.

Got suite tickets for Saturday's Wild/Blackhawks game. Should be fun- I haven't been to a Wild game in 2 years.

What a ridiculous night. The vaunted matchup of Brodeur's Team Canada backups wound up becoming Luongo vs. a 19 year old with two weeks of WHL experience.

Alex Pechursky (name mispelled on his Pens' uniform:lol:) was playing as back-up on a one game contract because both of our regular goaltenders were out. Our AHL call-up got chased early on, so in went the kid from the juniors. He was wearing a practice helmet, Fleury's pads (), and some random jersey with the wrong number because his equipment was stuck in customs ().

The kicker? Pechursky wound up the #3 star. The Pens still got routed, but the kid stood tall with some great saves. The one PP goal that got past him wasn't his fault.

Anyone read that about Patrice Cormier who intentionally smashed his elbow into Tas's face? Blech. Cormier should be sitting for a while for that.

BTW I find it ironic and bit kharmic that this happened against Roy's team that in the last few years have had their incidents of bad things...

Man the Sharks put on an ass-kicking last night. 8 different players scored goals, and 9 goals scored in total. Talk about being productive.

Wow Toronto has been busy. Will be kind of weird seeing Phenouf in a uniform that's not Calgary, but given how they have been playing lately, maybe it's a good thing.

It looks like Calgary will be sending Jokinen (and Prust for Kotalik and Higgins) to the Rangers.

So I wonder if they're doing all these trades just because they wanna improve their team or if there's more to it than that. I've read some rumours online about Calgary going after Kovalchuk. They'd need the cap space for that. Anyone got any info on how the Jokinen trade affects Calgary's cap space?

Seems to me like Calgary is having a bit of a Fire Sale, even though they are in 8th place in the west.

^ Yeah but the way they've been playing lately, they won't stay in the position for long. Before the trades anyway, who knows how they'll play now.

But there are always going to be slumps. Hell, we're not even at the olympic break yet and there is still quite a ways to go. It just seems to me they are giving up the season, and it feels a bit too early to do so.
