NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that the Metrodome collapsed. Now that Minnesota gubernatorial election has finally been settled (close race triggered a recount), maybe the governemnt and owner Zyg Wilfwill finally get moving on a new stadium.

Glad it's moved to Detroit. When the game was moved to Monday, my pool team was going to be short because two of our players had tickets to the game. Now that they can't go we'll have a full team.

Another plus is that the Packers will be on regular tv now. I have the NFL package, but the bars in my town were recently nailed for illegal satellite hookups and weren't going to be able to show the Packers. Now that I'm no longer snowbound, I can head into town and watch the Packers. I was starting to get a bit stir crazy and need to get out.

Fox has been running exclusive video of the collapse of the Metrodome from the inside.

What a clusterfuck that is!

It's really a good thing no one was hurt.

And the first Monday night game at Ford Field, except having nothing to do with the Lions.

If Detroit is so bad nobody wants them on MNF, why do they keep getting the Thanksgiving day game? To hell with tradition, put some better teams there too.

Even in HD, the great cave in of 2010 doesn't even look real. Looks more like a scale model.

Awesome video and it does look odd and kind-of fake. Also, probably worth pointing out that aside from any ensuing panic that it looks like that if this had happened when the stadium was in-use there wouldn't be (many) injuries (other than those on the feild.) Still pretty impressive video and it's good that no one was inside.

^ It's happened before apparently, but one more reason for them to get a new stadium, either with a solid/retractable roof or no roof.

Imagine if it had waited to collapse until there were 20,000 people in there.

Quite.

The Vikings' lease runs out after next season, so maybe this will be the final push.

Well, the Lions managed to take down the Packers.

Now it's Chicago's turn to beat the Patriots in the snow bowl.

Now we find out if the Bear's are good or not.

Common problem with the Metrodome... The place is such a dump that it never looks real no matter what sport is in it at the time.

If Minnesota doesn't build a new football stadium, get ready for the Los Angeles Vikings.

^ AFAIK, the developer that's waiting to build a new L.A. stadium *will* pay for it himself (or at least through entirely private donations). He's just waiting for a team to move there.

Ive never understood why any team in this day needs a "new" stadium... Why not just renovate the Metrodome like they're doing in New Orleans with the Superdome?

It's also what the Chiefs did to Arrowhead. They rennovated the hell out of the inside of that place and, from what I'm told, it looks really good.

But if they rennovate the stadium don't completely fuck it up, by pretty much rebuilding it anyway, like they did to Soldier Field.

Dear Bears,

You are the fucking worst, and you're still going to take the division. Get fucked. Enjoy that first-round bounce when the playoffs roll around. Eat all the dicks, Lovie. All the dicks in the world.

Maybe next week we can get an impromptu Bears/Jets game to see who's more overrated and sucks worse against teams over .500. Talk about a Toilet Bowl.

As a Bears fan, I thank you ;)

But we still have to figure it out and start beating teams (instead of outlasting them), probably 2 out of the 3 remaining games, to win anything.

Before today, I figured there would be a tie in the North. Who figured GB would suck even before Rodgers went down, and could end up losing to Detroit.

There have been proposals to renovate the Metrodome. All turned down. With the current state of the place, it would probably cost just as much - if not more - to renovate it than to build a new stadium.

Besides, not only is the Metrodome itself an obsolete piece of shit, the terms of the Vikings' lease there are also less than optimal. The team gets no money from luxury seating (what little exists) or parking revenue, only a small percentage of concessions sales, has no control over advertisements, and has to pay the commission 9.5% of ticket sales.

Once again, the 49ers are playing like a team giving the fanbase some hope only to have them dashed the next season. Well, not this year. They won today, against an inferior team in one of the worst divisions I've ever seen watching the NFL, and I don't care. Wake me up when these things happen:

1) We make the Playoffs or

2) We get eliminated finally and put out of our misery and

3) Mike Singletary and the rest of the staff is fired.

Can't really celebrate a game like this without looking at the big picture and wondering.

Well, that Bears game was a letdown. As a Pats fan, I was kinda geared up for a potential loss there, figured all the pieces were there: away game, shitty weather, good defense, Cutler not playing like, well, Cutler lately. And then they get completely dominated.

Starting to really like the Pats' chances this year. They really seem to be getting up and stomping the good teams this year. Record against great defenses (and offenses) is really good. (Unlike the Jets, who've basically only beat bad teams, and lost to anyone with a record over .500). Speaking of which, seem to have taken the air out of the Jets bluster after last week :)

That game was so disgusting that I wasn't even disappointed that CBS switched at halftime to that snoozefest of a Miami game.

I mean, really, Bears? You're going up against a guy who, statistically speaking, is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time when he plays in inclement weather, and you just run your vanilla Tampa 2? Christ, fucking Akili Smith could have shredded that defense. Get fucked, all of you.
