NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

I think he had the appendectomy before the season started and only missed the Steelers opener.

If you want to get even more precise, apparently Rothlisberger missed 4 days. In Cassel's case, 4 days would include Sunday if he had surgery on Wednesday.

That seems crazy fast to me, but I guess that's why they make the Big Money.

To me, it would be crazy to start him Sunday and risk further injury or setback his recovery time. Yeah it's a big game, but it's not the end of the world if the Chiefs lose. It's not like they clinch the division by winning Sunday. It would be helpful to win, but it's not "do or die" time.

although one would think NE will probably win as a division winner and host the championship.)
If the Pats can split with the Bears and Packers, then take care of out of it Miami and the moribund Bills, I suspect that should be enough to be the 1 seed.

If NE goes 3-1 in its final four games, but the one loss is to an NFC team, then they'll still hold the tiebreaker over both the Jets and Steelers, so even if either one of them won out, NE would still be the #1 seed.

However, if NE goes 3-1, but the loss is to a division opponent, then they'd lose the tiebreaker to the Jets, so the Jets winning out would see NE slipping to a wildcard:

That seems to be what most people are saying - that it's an unnecessary risk to play Cassell this Sunday. At best if they win is they probably drive a stake through the Chargers' hearts as far as the playoffs are concerned his year. Lose, and the Chiefs are still a game up on the Chargers.

It seems to me that the worst recovery times after an appendectomy are when the appendix actually bursts. One family friend didn't have hers burst, but apparently it was close enough that the doctors treated her as if it actually had... and she was in recovery for quite some time. In Cassel's case perhaps it was appendicitis but not as serious as it could have been.

Any details out on it yet?

You guys need to go back to the glory days of Barry Word and Christian Okoye.

Didn't matter who was QB, just hand them the ball...

Apparently you're not familiar with Jones and Charles.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION. The Chiefs are leading the league in rushing with Jones and Charles, so we don't need to go back to the glory days of Word and Okoye because we have the glory days of Jones and Charles currently.

Man, you are just no fun at all...

I have not watched earlier games with Manning (Footboll is a new sport for me), but if he's played like he did against Cowboys I could understand that they want to replace him. He more or less gave Cowboys two touchdowns, plus the fieldgoal that won them the match.

This season is an aberration for him. It's been highly unusual when it comes to his interceptions. Granted, he has had to throw a great deal more, because the team has such a pathetic running attack, but that's happened before.

No, anyone calling for him to be benched has no conception of what's going on.

Unless Steve Atwater was standing on the other side of the ball.

Peyton Manning is one of the best quarterbacks the league has ever seen. The Colts are normally a 12 win a year team, so anything less that them seems horrible.

The Jets were garbage last night, from the part of the game I saw (I decided sleep was a more fruitful use of my time than the second half, and it appears I was right.) Regardless, to consider this some sort of outing of the team as incompetent is a little much. The Jets beat the Patriots by two touchdowns earlier this year, and beat the Browns, who has thoroughly embarassed the Pats a week earlier. The Jets lost starting their free safety and defensive quarterback on Friday, and their pass coverage looked confused because of that. There are a lot of issues that can't be explained away--such as why our receiving corps had five fucking drops in the first half--and the Pats really were the better team last night. Regardless, the complete and utter destruction of the Jets? Nice try, Pats fans.

They meant a real team and got run over.

Manning's performance last night against the Titans was far more representative of what we've come to expect of him. It helped that the Colts had more of a running game, but really Manning himself was back to his surgeon-like self: cool, calm and on the mark.

Well it looks like the Chiefs have yet to decide if the man who just had minor surgery this week is going to play football, a game where part of your job is to have 300-lb men slam into you at full force, is going to play Sunday. Which is two days a way. A man who, by the way, hasn't been in practice all week.

Come on, Chiefs. It's obvious by now. Who's been at practice all week, learning the plays and preparing. It's going to be Croyle and we all know it.

Now, granted, Croyle has yet to play a game and win his record is 0-9 in regular season games and he hasn't been put in for over a year so, yeah, he's not got a lot of support on his side. But I think the man, at times, looks... decent.

One could argue that he is "due." ;)

One thing is for sure is that if he plays Sunday it's going to make or break his career. If he loses then, well, he's going to be hated by the few million people who're counting on him. If he wins, he'll be a hero.

The Metrodome collapsed- I love it!

The game had already been postponed to Monday night because the Giants were stranded in Kansas City, but it may take longer than that to get the dome fixed. Wonder what they're going to do if they don't get it fixed by then.

The last time the Metrodome collapsed I was in college at the U of M and sat in class and watched it.

^ It's happened before apparently, but one more reason for them to get a new stadium, either with a solid/retractable roof or no roof.

Imagine if it had waited to collapse until there were 20,000 people in there.

I'm sorry to say I was guessing on a loss before this all happened, and I figure the odds haven't improved any for the Chiefs. And you're right, Brodie will be hated if they lose that game, but unless he really messes up and costs them the game himself, that's really going to be unfair to him, but he's had his chances.

Even Mother Nature wants Favre's streak to continue....

I blame it on the weight of Favre's tears accumulating on the roof.

Anyhow, the NFL has announced the game will be played on Monday night in Detroit at Ford Field.
