NFL Talk - 2010-11 Season

I would welcome the chance to introduce Thigpen to the Rams defense in St. Louis in two weeks.

Well this comes under the heading of if it's not one goddamned thing it's another. Matt Cassel finally starts playing up to his potential and today, he has an emergency appendectomy. Biggest game of the year coming up for the Chiefs and we are losing our starting QB.

The irony here is that a couple of months ago I would have considered this to be good news. He finally plays good and now he's out. Goddammit!

Eh, I think Thigpen's better anyway. But it'll certainly make things more interesting. I just hope the Chiefs gets some discipline and watch the penalties.

I'm not sure how that helps Chiefs since Thigpen plays for Miami. :p

Perhaps you meant Brodie Croyle? I guess the good news is that the Chargers game is not a "must win" game and they were likely to lose it anyway. Hopefully Cassel will be back by the time we head to St Louis. (God I can't believe I'm actually missing Cassel. It's a bizzarro world I tell you )

EDIT TO ADD: The additional irony is that just yesterday the Chiefs got the go-ahead from the NFL to send out playoff ticket info to the season ticket holders. Paid for my playoff tickets online this morning. Must have jinxed them.

Shows how much attention I pay to the AFC...

At least the Rams will know where to hit Cassel.

Croyle, yeah. I was mixed up between the real game and my Madden game.

Croyle isn't too bad and should do a decent job for us an the QB spot.

I think the Chiefs lose this one, Cassel or no Cassel, so it's not THAT big of a deal if he misses just one game. Even if they do lose, the Chiefs still control their own destiny.

I knew something was up with Cassel when the Chiefs promoted a practice squad QB to the 53 man roster today.

The Chiefs haven't been very good Away this season and, yeah, I think this weekend will be ugly. But I'm not sure it'll be a make-it or break-it game so it's a loss we can "afford."

I'd sure like to have a Home Field Advantage for a play-off game however, but that's probably not very likely.

Actually if they do make the playoffs, they will host at least one game. The only way they're going to make the playoffs is as the division winner for the AFC West, and the division winners host the first round (or second round for those with a first week bye.) As I mentioned earlier, I've actually already paid for my playoff tickets for the first round. Whether I actually get to use them or not is up in the air.

Because of the records of the other AFC contenders, it's unlikely they can make the playoffs as a wild card team, so it's either win the division or don't go to the playoffs. IF they do that, they will have one home playoff game.

Now it would be possible albeit extremely unlikely for them to host the AFC championship game. First and foremost, the Chiefs would have to win their playoff games (unlikely IMHO) and then in other bracket the wild card team would have to advance to the AFC championship game. (Given the record of some of the second place teams in the AFC, it's not totally out of the question, although one would think NE will probably win as a division winner and host the championship.)

I love this positive thinking here!

If the Pats can split with the Bears and Packers, then take care of out of it Miami and the moribund Bills, I suspect that should be enough to be the 1 seed.

The Jets have a tough schedule too, and NE already beat the Steelers so they have that tiebreaker as well.

Still a lot of football to be played, and I'm worried the Bears will get to Brady. The only time he plays badly is when he is under constant pressure, and 2 guys on the OL are done for the year.

Gotta love someone who doesn't know anything about football running their mouth.

If the Colts decide Manning is no longer in their plans, we'll happily take him in Miami.

I'm quite sure there are lot of teams that would be happy to take him.

The NFL would probably salivate at the thought of having him in the same division as Tom Brady. I imagine that both those games would be in primetime every year while it lasted.

Uhh...I wouldn't salivate over that. Send him to the NFC West where I don't have to see him every November.

Can you imagine Manning paired with Marshall, Bess, Fasano and Brown?

And Stephen Ross has been looking to make a big splash since taking over as owner of the Dolphins...

Ben Roethlisberger had an appendectomy in the middle of a season and only missed one game, IIRC.

I think he had the appendectomy before the season started and only missed the Steelers opener.

If you want to get even more precise, apparently Rothlisberger missed 4 days. In Cassel's case, 4 days would include Sunday if he had surgery on Wednesday.

That seems crazy fast to me, but I guess that's why they make the Big Money.
