NFL Offseason 2011 - The Longest Yard?

Yeah, they wrecked that one for us.

All that said, though, it would have been nice to use some of the 6th and 7th rounders that can't make the team anyway (because we draft so many damned players every year with our 30 picks a year!), and move up occasionally. We've got 3 2nd rounders and 2 3rd rounders right now. How about taking a 2nd and 3rd and getting a high 2nd rounder or something? Quantity over quality is annoying, even if useful in beating the odds for draft busts...

I have no idea what Denver's doing today. We've drafted 3 different positions, only one of which I can kind of understand, and none of those positions were what we need. I can understand our safety pick because now would be a great time to get some stud in there to start learning under Dawkins. It's not really a big need at the moment, but I can at least understand it. I don't get the offensive lineman. Yes, we'll need at least one guy, but with the other needs, I don't know if this was the time to get one. A large issue with last season's O-line was that our guys were taking turns being hurt and we were starting a new line every single week! I think that we will do better if everyone is healthly and consistantly playing. Drafting a second linebacker doesn't make sense to me either, especially since we have 20 or 30 of them on our roster already.

Where are the defensive linemen? We had a D that couldn't stop the run to save our lives unless we committed everything to stopping the run, but then we had no one left to cover the pass. On top of that, we've released two of our three starters from last season. I really would have thought that the D-line would have been a bigger priority, but it's largely gone ignored. I'm glad we're still beefing up the defense, but I still would have thought that we would have done something about our biggest defensive weakness.

Sounds like the Bears screwed the Ravens. Angelo, you fuck.

Like.*

*The fact that the guy who dicked us in the draft is one letter off from the guy who's dicked us for ages in baseball is a) sort of appropriate; and b) making me a bit extra-suspicious of Mayflower vans right now for some reason...

And Pats' 2nd and 3rd rounders? CB, 2 RB, QB, and a couple trade-outs.

Yeah, that makes sense

Probably work out alright, but can't say I ever understand what Bill's doing, it's frustrating :)

In Bill we trust I guess.

Kinda wished they addressed their shoddy pass rush while they were at it.

I heard that as well today. Not sure what it means long term, but sounds like the thing is officially on for real again.

Oh great, what am I gonna do on Sunday afternoons this fall?

What's happened for the moment is the appeals court has upheld the stay on the previous verdict to stop the lockout until that verdict is finally looked at in appeals court. So, we're going to have a lockout until, I believe, early June. At that point, it will officially be decided if a lockout is legal or not.

Looks like the greedy owners are gonna get their way based on some of the language coming out of the stay. Looks like we're in this for the long haul; way to wreck the No. 1 sport in America, dicks.

ESPN's Sal Palantonio is reporting that the teams and players are in a "negotiating mode" and is predicting a deal by this time next month (i.e., July 15).

So this is as much a college football as an NFL thing, but... Terrelle Pryor, WR or TE?

Late-round supplemental draft pick as a project quarterback, at best.

That, or the Bengals dump Carson Palmer for a blocking sled, acquire Pryor and have him starting in Week 1.

The lockout may be coming to an end in the near future. The owners and players negotiating groups have come to a tentative deal and need to report back to their respective groups to make sure everyone is on board. The current proposal includes...
  • Players will receive 48 percent of all revenue, but it will not fall below 46.5 percent.
  • A salary cap will remain in place, but teams will need to be at or near it.
  • An 18-game season will be a negotiating point going forward, but it's not a slam dunk to happen now or in the future.
  • A 16-game Thursday night schedule will be created.
  • Unrestricted free agency starts at four years.
  • Retired players receive improved benefits.

Not necessarily.... if they can come to an agreement and create a new CBA before the courts rule, then they won't need the courts. In fact, all the judges have been encouraging the two parties to make a decision before they do because if the courts are forced to settle this, then they'll settle it in a way that won't make either side happy.

The urge to beat the courts to a decision, combined with the urge to still have a season, are the main motivating factors to reach an agreement. They won't have to wait for the courts if the players drop the class action in exchange for an agreement.
