NFL free agency 2009

For PATS fans, we have officially received 3 compensation picks, which, by the way, the league prohibits from being traded:
third-rounder (No. 97 overall), a fifth-rounder (No. 170 overall) and a sixth-rounder (No. 207) overall.

These are a result of losing Asante Samuel, Randall Gay and Donte Stallworth.

Always nice to have a few extra picks, although those aren't real high impact spots in the draft. Maybe they can snag a diamond in the rough.

I figure that Louisville might win comfortably, but man ... the just destroyed Arizona this evening.

that's fantastic!

Moroney has to be pissing Belichick off pretty bad with that one at the end, though. And maybe he should focus on not getting cut from the NFL before diving through more car windows at full speed?

That was awesome! I liked the kicker putting it into the bell tower of the state house or whatever that was there.

Well, Cutler is now a Bear. Denver got a 3rd round pick this year, a 1st round pick the next two years, and Kyle Orton. I'm not enthused about Orton, but I'll deal with it. Maybe Simms will step up to the plate. I still wished that things had worked out, but between him behaving like a baby in general and then not answering the calls of the coach and the owner, it was time to get him and his theatrics out of town.

All right McDaniels, your rebuilding job just got bigger. Let's see what you can do.

Oh wow.... I can't wait to see JKTim's take on this development!

It's probably a good move for both clubs. Denver has to use the picks to get their defense in order. The Bears need a QB, though Orton certainly wasn't a flop. Thing is, who will Cutler throw to?

Kyle Ort--I mean JAY CUTLER is my God and Matt Forte the bringer of His message!

Denver has to use the picks to get their defense in order.

The Broncos now possess two first-round picks in 2009 and 2010. If those aren't used to rebuild the entire defense, McDaniels should be fired immediately.

Not at all. Orton is a perfectly capable quarterback who won't lose games for you, although his ability to win them is yet to really show itself. (I still think the boy came into his own last year.) The Broncos will do fine with him.

Thing is, who will Cutler throw to?

"Devin Hester?"

"Yeah, coach?"

"You see that diabetic kid there? He has a motherfucking cannon. Do you know what to do when a cannon is launching the football?"

" ... I catch it and run, coach?"

"You're goddamn right, son. You run. You run until you see daylight and you run with that pigskin until you're in Gary, Indiana, and you don't look back."

I think Denver got a very good deal out of this. Sure it makes sense for the Bears, they just better make sure they never offer Cutler in a trade and back out ;)

Man, San Fran has missed out huge on quarterbacks this offseason. They have to insane if they think Hill can lead this team to the postseason. Sad smiley face :(

It's funny that, everywhere you go, the Bears are suddenly Super Bowl champs.

Yet no one seems to realize that Cutler's stats from last year were greatly inflated.

The three other teams in his division last year (Oakland, Kansas City, San Diego) hosted three of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. Plus only four defenses he played against last year, were in the top half of the rankings. He was abysmal against them. (4 TDs 6 INTS)

There's also his inability to "win the big game," or even win much at all.

People bring up his, "Well he's 13-1 and when the defense gives up less than 20 points," but I'm pretty sure you could say that about any quarterback.

So while he's easily the first legitimate quarterback Chicago has had in a really long time, I think it's way too early to anoint him savior.
