NFL free agency 2009

Yeah the AFC West is a dreadful division. I think he's a solid starting QB that should help the Bears immensely assuming his maturity and off field issues don't screw up the locker room. The NFC North is not the strongest division, the Bears have as legit a shot to win it as anyone.

Who are the main receivers on Chicago anyway?

Denver on the other hand is in rough shape. The organization is in chaos right now.

Who are the main receivers on Chicago anyway?

Devin Hester, who has the speed of a rocket train but is functionally retarded and doesn't have great hands -- which will be great for Cutler and the Bears' offense, now.

There's also Earl Bennett, who was Cutler's favorite receiver when they played together at Vanderbilt.

Beyond that, the cupboard's bare (although Greg Olsen now has the potential to become a top-5 tight end) ... so I'm hoping the Bears use what's left of their cap space and sign Torry Holt to be an on-the-field coach and wideout to mentor the kids.

Plaxico was released by the Giants today. Really shot himself in the foot you could say.

So last year, I swore that the last thing the Titans needed in the draft was a Runningback whatever they did I hoped they wouldn't pick a RB first round, and the main thing was to get a WR or two early on. I was pissed :wtf: when they picked Chris Johnson, then ecstatic :bolian: over the season when it worked out. They still don't seem to be doing a lot for WR in Free Agency, though Nate Washington's a decent pickup.

So this year I'm going to say the last thing the Titans need is a Wide Receiver; whatever they do, I hope they don't pick a Wide Receiver in the first round.

In some news today, the Eagles acquire Jason Peters from the Bills. Yeah, tackles aren't earth shattering news, but it's still a very good pickup for the Eagles.

KC has traded TE Tony Gonzales to Atlanta for a 2nd rounder in 2010. Seems like a pretty light compensation, would have liked to see the Pats get in on that one. Or have had that worked into the Cassel-Vrabel sweetheart deal we gave them a few months ago.

Well if you felt victimized by the Cassel trade, then maybe you'll feel better about this, because we just got raped. Good Lord.

Victimized isn't exactly the right word, just felt like compensation was pretty low for the Pats. I mean, look at the Cutler trade a little while later: 2 1st rounders, and a 3rd in there somewhere too, right? So 1 2nd rounder seemed light.

Making the trade a 2nd rounder AND Gonzalez would have made for an easier sell back in New England (and I'd imagine that the Chiefs' fans could justify that return better than what they got now).

Well I never did understand how we got Casel for that low of a deal, but it looks like the "football gods" have just made up for it, at least from the Chiefs' perspective.

For some unexplainable reason, Ravens fans were all over campus today. Seriously, so many Ravens jerseys and I have no idea why. It was getting kind of annoying.

I did get to run into this guy, which made up for it, though :p

Yes and no. Haley's system really doesn't use tight ends as wide receivers, and it's likely that Gonzales wasn't going to be a good fit. He also doesn't have a whole lot left in the tank by this point. He's 33, and in the twilight of his career, and he'd made it clear as of late that he was not particularly interested in remaining a Chief for perpetuity. He's had a hell of a run. At least the Chiefs got something for him (it's not like they're going to be good this year).

The insane part is that it's a 2010 pick. Now the Falcons have no holes on offense (outside of the one in their left tackle's spine), with #24, #55 and #90 to spend on defense. That's a hell of a position to be in. It also has a strong carryover effect for the Colts: Atlanta will now likely take the best defensive tackle remaining on the board, hosing the Colts' first round (I'm now expecting Bill Polian to either trade up for BJ Raji -- highly unlikely -- or just take a wideout in the first round and pin his hopes on a lucky D-line pick in the 4th round).

Couldn't prove it by the way he played last year. He was amazing and had one of his best seasons last year. In an interview with Fox sports, he made comment that he wants to play for the Falcons for 3 or 4 seasons.

EDIT: I edited this to get the quote right. He said 3 or 4, not 4 or 5. Even with 3 years, he's got a lot left to give to the NFL.

A day later, and I'm still PO'd about this.
