A few interesting results from yesterday:

- Albert Haynesworth goes to the Redskins for 7 years, $100m
- DeAngelo Hall stays with the Redskins for 6 years, $54m
- Kurt Warner does NOT resign with the Cardinals.
- Jeff Saturday stays with the Colts, terms not yet disclosed
- Dolphins sign Gibril Wilson. 4 years and $27.5m

There are still plenty of players and moves to be had, though. I'm curious to see what happens with TJ Houshmanzadeh.

Plus, I'm curious as to why Warner wasn't resigned in Arizona. I would have thought he'd love to stay there given this past post-season. But if Boldin leaves.... things might get a great deal tougher.

I'm interested to see if Haynesworth plays hard now that he has the big contract. Does anyone know if the Skins use the 4-3 or the 3-4? Not a fan of Hall, he's not as good as he thinks he is, but who knows, he might stay sharp in Washington.

As a Dolphins fan I'm pretty content with FA so far, we got an upgrade at the FS position with Wilson and I hope we keep Bell for a good safety tandem. I've heard some people say we should go for Houshmanzadeh but I don't really want them to. Now if we could work out a trade for Boldin, I'm for it.

Man, the Redskins are just retarded! Not that either of those are bad players, but if there's one team in the league that will go into FA EVERY year and try to buy anything good, rather than developing things, it's Washington. And they wonder why it never works out...

Adding to this list that Fred Taylor is reported to have agreed to a deal with the Patriots (no terms yet, or official confirmation). He'll make a nice addition to that mix and match backfield, that despite using a bunch of guys, and having injuries to every player there, managed to overall be one of the best in the league last year.

From a Patriots standpoint, disappointed that Saturday resigned with the Colts. That helps stabilize things there for Manning... :p

I don't know enough about the offense the Dolphins use to say whether TJ would be a good fit for it or not. However, I do know he is an excellent WR with great hands and good size/speed. During the whole Ocho Cinco debacle in Cincinnati he seemed to do his job as best he could under the circumstances and wasn't a distraction. Of course all that does not necessarily translate to a good fit.

Boldin is as tough as they come and has tremendous talent. From what I've read he's been a great teammate on the Cardinals. I suspect that must be true in part because Fitzgerald wouldn't have offered to take a salary reduction to help sign Boldin. Given a choice, I'd probably take Boldin but Housh would be a great choice too, imo.

TJ would look nice standing opposite of Randy Moss, don't you think? ;)

With those two there, and Welker in the slot, and Brady back under center, they'd likely be putting up Basketball scores each week

Not to mention Taylor in the backfield as a nice complement to Maroney. I think Fred can still get it done, just maybe not to the same level he once did. I don't know much about his rep off the field, but as far as I can recall I've not heard of any problems at all. Besides, the Patriots have done well with previous "malcontents" like Cory Dillon and Moss.

If they were counting on him to be "the guy", I'd be worried. In a group for situational running with Moroney, Faulk, and Morris, Taylor will look just fine. Can use him in the short yardage "battering ram" situations to start, and Bellichick is smart enough to adjust what's working and maximize what we've got.

They really just need to focus on the defense, but that's more of a draft situation. Also a matter of figuring out who stepped up last year enough to justify a spot. Lots of young linebackers and CBs got a look last year, so if a couple of those look good, can figure things out easier.

Knowing the deal with Cassel, and whether we've got another draft pick to play with would help clear things up as well. A 1st rounder to spend on another Jerrod Mayo-type player (or a good, tall CB) would really clean up a lot of the problems, and let them use the aging players a little more situationally.

i am laughing at the redskins..
especially all the guaranteed money they gave albert.
for five years there was drama about getting him to workout with the team and his taking plays off.
he has 9.5 sacks the first five years.

the contract years come up and all of a sudden he is dominate.

plus there are signs he is losing control off the field.
he already had two highway incidents and may be facing a parole violation in a traffic incident that caused injuries to another person.

The Redskins win the offseason championship every year, then go 9-7.

If so, that's a great pickup. It's a different look than the bruising Maroney. And it frees up the highly underrated Kevin Faulk to be a 3rd down receiver, which is is really good at.

Yeah, too bad about the Saturday thing. Seeing Manning on the turf makes me smile.

I can only dream. But they could use a second 'traditional' receiver. I love Welker but he's more of a dink and dunk, screen pass, slot route type of receiver.

Gafney is the home run threat but has never been an every down WR.

If anyone is wondering, I'm a NY/NE hybrid having lived in both. That's why you see rooting for Mr. Met and Pat Patriot.

Update: ESPN has confirmed the Taylor signing. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3939283

I'm sure TJ would do fine with the Fins but I would rather them go younger. Although I would rather TJ sign with the Fins than with the Pats, that's the last thing we need.

Though I've got to give them props for the Taylor pickup. He's never been exceptionally durable, but he still has some more carries in him.

Saturday only would work well in certain line schemes and I think he (and other team GM's) realized that and decided to stay.

I kind of figured Taylor would end up with the Patriots. He's their kind of player and he has a chance for a ring now. I do think the Haynesworth signing was a mistake though. I get the impression that he only plays hard when there's money on the table and a long term contract removes that incentive. I'm also not sure he's managed to play a complete season yet either.

Man I hope San Fran gets a quarterback this offseason. Matt Cassel anyone? Hello? Bueller? Toss in TJ and they're looking pretty sweeeeeeet.

Cassel to the 49ers for their pick (10th overall) would be a pretty good deal for the Pats. Cassel is from the area, and would certainly be a step up for the 49ers, so it's at least a possibility. Plus, their GM is JUST bad enough with money to want to make that deal, so unless they're still sore over giving the Pats their LAST 1st rounder, it has a chance.

Still think Cassel going to Detroit with their 2nd 1st rounder (20th, maybe?) makes the most sense. Lets them draft a lineman with the #1 pick, and then giving up the pick they got from the Cowboys to get a QB would make more sense. Cassel's probably not excited about going to Detroit, though, and the market there may limit what they can offer for a contract. On the plus side, giving him Calvin Johnson to throw to could be a good combo.

Sage Rosenfels (Texans backup QB) to the Vikings for a 4th round draft pick. The Texans are expected to sign Patrick Ramsey to backup Schaub.

Oh, and the Texans signed Bruce Matthews as a coaching assistant. I'm glad to see Bruce back in Houston.

Cassel saved the Pats bacon last year. They shouldn't punish him by sending him to Detroit!

For his sake, I hope he ends up in Chicago or Philly (if McNabb walks). Someplace with a little talent around him.

Well, if he gets 20+ million guaranteed in the bank, it's not PUNISHMENT, even if he's banished to football hell. He'll pay more in taxes on his bonus check than he's made in his lifetime...

Mike Vrabel traded to KC for unknown draft pick. Can't say I saw this one coming. On the downside of his career, but still, unexpected.

They better get those, because look what I just read!!!!
:guffaw:

All true. I'm just sick of seeing the Rattay/Smith/O'Sullivan/Hill experiment. Get a bonafide QB and you open it up for Gore, who IMO has so much more to give. Toss Cassel in there and you've got a pretty decent shot of winning that very medicore division (sorry Cards fans :) ).

I'm also hearing Vick, which would probably go over like a lead balloon in San Fran.
