NFL Football 2009

Second 49er game, all about the Running backs. I really like this Coffee dude. He had a great night, and while he won't be taking Gore's spot anytime soon, I could see him as the back up. Pass Rush was still kind of non-existant but it looked better than last week. As for Smith and Hill, I really didn't see anything from either to really be convinced. See how they do in Big D next week.

:scream:
Orton was doing pretty well. Not quite redeeming himself from last week, but doing very well none the less. Then they get to the one year line to put themselves up 17-7. And you know what the stupid bastard does? He throws the ball left handed, across his body, and over his head into a Seahawk defender. You. Stupid. Bastard. So many stupid mistakes you can chose to make, and you chose that one, there?!? We can't win. He either makes a lot of mistakes or he just makes a few pivotal, incredibly stupid mistakes. Gaahhh!!!!!

Damn, no the dream of another magical undefeated preseason run for the Lions is abruptly torn away from us.

Maybe not, but I really enjoyed that slick Statue-of-Liberty play the Ravens scored their 2nd TD on-- that is why I love football. :techman:

Mark Sanchez is not having a good night thus far.

I was stuck at the airport picking someone up, and then couldn't find the game on radio on the way home. I caught a little bit of the 3rd/4th quarter once I got home.

I think the Jets are still a couple years away from being relevant. Sanchez will probably become a good QB, Leon Washington is a dynamic player on the rise, and the D is pretty strong. They have no one to throw it to right now. Cotchery is a nice WR but not a #1. And he's about all they got.

If they can be the Pats' punching bag for a couple more years, its fine by me.

^ You do have to admire that level of consistency.

If Detroit gets off to an 0-4 start or worse, I'll be pulling for them to run their record to at least 0-10. That way Detroit owns the record for longest NFL losing streak. Right now, the '76 Bucs still have that record.

If Detroit is going to be bad, I want historical badness.

That's the spirit! Go for the record!

Hell, my team went 18-1 a couple years ago, and didn't even get a t-shirt for their efforts. Nobody remembers teams that only lose a little.

Well for better or worse (and I suspect it will be mostly worse) I took the plunge and became a Chiefs season ticket holder again last Friday. I couldn't believe that there were still lower level tickets available. How the mighty have fallen. Just a few short years ago, there was something like a 10 year waiting list for tickets, and now this. When I gave up my seats a couple of years ago, I thought I'd never be able to get seats like them again. But the ones I picked up are nearly identical, just at the other end of the stadium. It's both exciting and depressing at the same time.

Exciting because I'm going to be going to some games again, but depressing because I know they suck arse.

Oh Waah, waah. Cry me a river about the Patriots will ya!

:p:lol:

I'm not sure what's going on here, but I really hope that THESE are the Jaguars we see in the regular season. Despite a few miscues on offense, they've looked much more polished and been much more effective than they were against either Miami or Tampa Bay last week. Maurice Jones-Drew is finally getting long runs, the pocket is holding (mostly), and Troy Williamson is on point. On the defensive side, they're holding up remarkably well despite not starting 4 first-stringers. ('Course, the Eagles look awful, so YMMV.) Bonus points to Torry Holt for making a veteran move and scooping up a possibly-loose ball into the endzone. He ended up scoring a touchdown for the Jags after our intended receiver fumbled before getting in (on a rather dirty hit from Asante Samuel). Double bonus points to Brian Iwuh, a backup, for running an interception back 93 yards for a TD and then recovering a fumble on the next drive. I still think that the Jags need a new backup QB, though; Bouman isn't showing much improvement over last week. Garrard is looking better, but he made a few really bad passes. Greg Jones either needs more playing time or a replacement; I can't figure out which.

As for the Eagles, they look awful. McNabb is all over the field, and they only started moving the ball against the Jags' backup defense when they stopped shoehorning Vick into the game via Wildcat formations. They still haven't put him in alone, even though it's 2/3 of the way through the third quarter. The football fan in me would prefer to believe that they were simply dominated by the Jaguars' starters, but they really may have been overrated during the offseason. It may also be a confidence/focus issue - Michael Vick has been a huge distraction to the Eagles. The series with Vick in got absolutely nothing done for the Eagles, so it's certainly not impossible. Though he's still better than Kevin Kolb, who just grounded the ball in the end zone!

Either way, I have a feeling that this is karma trying to give the Eagles a wakeup call, courtesy of the Jaguars.

ETA: Ok, maybe not. But the Eagles only started scoring when they left their offensive starters in against the Jaguars' scrubs.

I wouldn't shed any tears if the Vick experiment blew up on them.

That's the impression I got too, that they were forcing him into the lineup rather than an offense scheme geared around him.

With Vick, the Eagles really only have yesterday's preseason game, and next week's to see what they can do with him in game situations. After that, the guy can't play again for awhile.

And you can't really take success or failure in the preseason as an indication of what will happen during the regular season...

Wow... the Bills starters are actually managing to look worse each week in the preseason. Yes, we have played against 3 very good defenses (PIT, GB, and CHI), but you would expect to see flashes of something.

I'm making the call now, we're gonna have a top-3 draft pick and a new coach AGAIN next year. I wonder if there's any amount of money to get Cowher to coach here....

I'd be more worried about moving vans showing up under the cover of darkness, bound for Toronto.:alienblush:
