NFL Football 2009

I can't guarentee it would have ended any differently without them, but Denver's tendancy towards poorly timed penalties once again helped kill them. On 2nd and 23, Denver donates the Raiders a 32 yard pass interference penalty on the final drive. On that same drive, on 2nd and goal from the 10, a illegal contact penalty renews the Raider's downs rather than forcing them into 4th and goal from the 10. All season long, Denver has been taking borderline disasterous penalties and they need to stop. They happen at 3rd downs and 4th downs for opposing teams and the happen when Denver gets down into the red zone. If they don't go away, Denver's going to have a helluva time having any success.

Forget the penalties. How about being 11-22 on the season in goal to go situations this year? How about not being able to put the ball in the end zone from the 2 yard line and settling for yet another fucking field goal? Put the ball in the end zone right there and the penalties don't mean shit.

They've pretty much shot themselves in the foot for the playoffs, again; and given a lot of hope to a lot of teams who thought they were done like dinner, again.

Another year with a great start and a worse than mediocre finish. It's like going to prom, having your date whisper in your ear on the dance floor she's not wearing any underwear, and the zipper on your rented tux getting stuck and you can't get your pants down.

But at least our quarterback didn't get pulled after throwing 3 Cutlers.

Damn! That was one great game ending catch by the Steelers.

Not so great for Packers fans. Pentalties killed the Packers again. But I wish they would have gotten just one more and prevented Wallace from making that catch.

Hard to beleive the Packers' pass defense (which was ranked 3rd) gave up 503 yards. Roethlisberger's not that good of a QB.

At least seeing the Vikings lose made the day a little more palatable.

And the Bears? One minute it was a manageable 14-7, I go to the kitchen for a snack, and the next thing I know it's 28-7. I mean, I was gone for 40 seconds!

My friend and I went to go pick up some food at halftime, when the score was a manageable 14-7.

Knowing that we wouldn't get back until a few minutes into the third, while he was turning on the TV I jokingly predicted that the score would be 21-7 with the Bears having given up another TD. Both of our jaws damn near literally hit the floor when we saw the Bears had somehow given up 17 points in about 6 minutes of play in the third quarter, making it 31-7. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE??? :wtf:

Fumbling the kickoff helped. The Ravens scored 14 points in the third quarter before the Bears offense touched the ball.

How's this for a professional quarterback?

Jay Cutler: 10 of 27 (37%) for 94 yards, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions.

That, my friends, is a QB rating of 7.9.

Seriously, 7.9!!

Hell I could do that...

Cutler is finding out the hard way what its like not to have an offensive line built to stop the pass rush....

Dear Chicago Bears,

Maybe you should find a different sport to play. You're not very good at this one.

Pats win, less than convincingly. But the Jets and Dolphins losses mean if New England wins next week (when I'll be in attendance), they win the division.

The fumbled kick return helped. :p

At least it sounds like you didn't miss any exciting Bears offensive action, since they didn't even get on the field for the first 6 or so minutes of the second half.

Damn! That was one great game ending catch by the Steelers.

Indeed it was. But did the "Cone of Dumbass coaching decisions" get lowered over the Pittsburg stadium or something? Good Lord.

First Tomlin up by 2 and not a lot of time on the clock goes for the onside kick, pretty much ensuring the Packers would be in FG range if they recovered it, which they did.

And then the Packers get the go ahead TD to put them up by 6 and don't just kick the extra point, but instead go for 2 and fail, leaving the door open to be beat by a Steelers TD and extra point.

I think all the cold and snow must have affected the coach's brains.
Uhh, the Packers were up 4, then converted the 2pt conversion to go up 6, doesn't make much of a difference but it forced the Steelers to make their extra point. Remember, we scored 5 TDs, missed 1 field goal, and had 36 points in the end...

Oh well damn, then I'm the one with the "cold affected" brain. Somehow I missed that and totally F'd up the math, but now it's like DUH, obviously that's the way it had to be. Color me stupid.

But the call by Tomilin I saw, so I know that part was correct.

Felt mixed about things yesterday for my team.

TENNESSEE TITANS MOVE TO 7-7 BEATING FINS IN OT 27-24!

After starting 0-6 it would be a shame to at least not finish 8-8, still though its way better at 7-9 even considering my prediction about week 5.

With Keith Bullock out on Defense our job in beating the Chargers just went from difficult to nearly impossible. When Bullock went out that was when the Dolphins made their run. It's odd how out of 11 men on the field just one can make the difference.
If Bullock is out as expected the rest of the year our task to still beath the less than impressive Seahawks just got tougher also.

Re: Steelers v Packers.
A caller on a sports talk show asked this: How about instead of the Pack scoring with 2min to go the receiver takes a knee at about the 2yard line. Force the Steelers to use any timeouts and burn clock. Then scoring, FG or TD, and giving the Steelers less time to work with.
His example was the heads up play by(Jags player?) who took a knee to eat up clock and preserve a win earlier in the year rather than score & turn the ball over giving opponet some hope.

The same situation happened in the Chiefs/Browns game. Nearly cost Cleveland the win....

Unfortunately, this is what I'm talking about though. It wasn't as prominant yesterday, but how many times have we had a short goal-to-go turn into a longer G2G, only to have it turn into even longer and almost undoable? The frequent dumbass penalties at critical moments kill us on both sides of the ball.

Part of the issue too is our running game, especially when Moreno is all on his own. It may just be because he is young and inexperienced, but he can't run short yardage situations to save his life. Hillis or Buckhalter are perfect for those sorts of situations, and Moreno is this side of worthless.

Looks like Holmgren is finally coming to the Browns after all: Link to story.

I'm not sure how much good it will do, but it's a change of scenery... and there's doubtless more to come.

Giants 45
Redskins 12

DAMMIT!!! I hope the new GM can turn things around for next year.

Pats win, less than convincingly. But the Jets and Dolphins losses mean if New England wins next week (when I'll be in attendance), they win the division.

They've been winning less than convincingly for much of this season, and their second half woes continue.
In truth, the AFC East is a weak division, and as much as I love this team, if they don't right their ship soon, a team like San Diego will likely brutalize them in the playoffs.
I'm concerned about this weeks game as well...

As a charger fan i hope they rest the big guns when we play the titans on XMAS day. Then, if we need to, win the redskins game in the final week. A charger win and or pat loss will seal second seed for the chargers...
