NFL Football 2009

Even if the 49ers miraculously made the playoffs, they wouldn't get very far. This offense is absolutely terrible.

I'll break this up so you don't get dinged for posting 3 in a row after the 25th Cutler.

I hear the mod here is a real tool. ;)

Thanks. I didn't bother posting about the next two turnovers because they weren't his fault. ;)

*cough* 25 *cough*

Sorry, Bears, but that was delicious.

There is only 1 team in the league that can make me genuinely foul after seeing the Broncos lose to them, and it happened today. God. Dammit. Good game, but god dammit.

Oh, Mark Sanchez. I have to believe you're the quarterback of the future, not so much because that's what the evidence says, but because that's the only way I'll stay sane. But... have you considered practicing in a freezer? You get paid a lot. You could probably afford a really big freezer.

Also, Jay Feely? Come on, what the hell? You don't get any wit from me, just what the hell?

I was one of the few people who watched the Lions play today, but it was an interesting game (I realize I am being generous by referring to the Lions scheduled matchups as "games", but I digress). I made the following conclusions.

Dante Culpepper sucks. No wonder no one wanted him when he came back. He led his team to a 17-0 halftime deficit, gets benched, and the Lions immediately tie it up at 17-17.

Jim Schwartz pays a lot of attention to detail. His record is awful this year, but the man makes the right calls at the right time. He challenged a punt because he counted too many men on the field, and was correct. A Cardinal played had not made it off the field when the ball was snapped.

Schwatz was a defensive coach, and the Lions seem to be turning things around as a team, especially on defense. They got clobbered by the Ravens last week, but responded very well against the Cardinals. Given another year or two to undo the draft damage done by Millen, and this could easily be a .500 team.

And yes, I am looking forward to the day where the Lions win as many as they lose. So to all the Pats and Steelers fans out there, understand that this is what suckitude really is. Do not cry when your team loses a game or two, or misses the playoffs with a winning record.

Hey, the Patriots used to be one of those teams looked down upon the rest of the league, remember. I'd love to see the Lions turn it around and become a winning team, and I believe they will some day. No team can remain in the doldrums forever. Heck, look at the Saints--the Saints, for Pete's sake!

It'll be the day when the Lions are actually a winning program. I've been waiting for that for what seems like forever. It has to happen sometime right?

Unfortunately, I live too close to D-Town to get to see the game due to blackout. When I saw the score had gone to 17-17 I went online because I just knew they had to have put Stanton in. About time too IMO, I don't know how good he is or isn't (they never give him a chance) but I know Culpepper isn't the answer and I don't know what they think they have to lose giving him a shot.

I'm pretty confident that Stafford actually is the answer in Detroit in the long-term. But no point risking injury to the guy in a meaningless season at this point. It might not be a bad idea to shut Stafford down for the rest of the year, and see what Stanton can do.

^^ I agree about Stafford, it's just whatever they decide if he's not playing I think I'd rather see Stanton instead of Culpepper.

Congratulations, Chicago Bears! You now have the same record as the Oakland Raiders, a team lacking a QB, receivers and just about every other position on the field. The only difference is that Oakland is somehow improving as the season progresses (to their credit), while you guys look like a 2-14 team. What an embarrassment to the game of football.

Very frustrating game. First that ridiculous Packers vs Steelers game... then the Vikings lose, which is great, but Adrian Peterson grabs a garbage time screen to beat me right before the final int. The game was already lost for them, but that crap play is going to cost me up to $150. Of course it would have been moot had Kansas City fielded a merely below average kick coverage unit and held Josh Cribs to under 300 yards and 2 TDs on kickoff returns. Or if the Bears had merely kneeled the ball on every offensive down instead of giving up 6 turnovers to the Baltimore defense I was facing. Ugh.

With Dallas winning against the Saints, the Packers need to kick it in gear against Seattle next week. Here's hoping the Giants lose tomorrow. I'm pulling for the Eagles to steal that 2nd bye and put Favrageddon as a wild card round. I don't want any part of Philly in the first round. I wouldn't mind Dallas though. But once again, our playoff position is a little more precarious than it should be at the moment.

Damn! That was one great game ending catch by the Steelers.

Indeed it was. But did the "Cone of Dumbass coaching decisions" get lowered over the Pittsburg stadium or something? Good Lord.

First Tomlin up by 2 and not a lot of time on the clock goes for the onside kick, pretty much ensuring the Packers would be in FG range if they recovered it, which they did.

And then the Packers get the go ahead TD to put them up by 6 and don't just kick the extra point, but instead go for 2 and fail, leaving the door open to be beat by a Steelers TD and extra point.

I think all the cold and snow must have affected the coach's brains.

Denver's not going to win out.... and there's a greater than zero chance they drop one to either the Raiders or Chiefs.

What a terrible game yesterday. To lose to the Raiders at home? On Barrel Man day? You ought to be ashamed.

What a fun day of football. Yesterday was one of those days that makes the NFL Sunday Ticket worth every penny. I was able to see the ends of the Cleveland/Kansas City, Bengals/Chargers, Titans/Dolphins, Packers/Steelers (WOW!), Broncos/Raiders (LOL!!) games.

My Beloved Rams, down 2 linemen, 2 quarterbacks, and our best defensive player, briefly flirted with victory only to snap back to reality and tank as usual.

I'm now convinced that the Orton/Cutler trade will go down as the worst trade in NFL history. The deal has made BOTH teams much worse.

I mean, good Lord Broncos, losing to the Raiders at home? Hello?

And the Bears? One minute it was a manageable 14-7, I go to the kitchen for a snack, and the next thing I know it's 28-7. I mean, I was gone for 40 seconds!

We should be in for some good stuff the next two weeks. Hell, the AFC has 14 teams at 7-7, so....

:techman:

I can't guarentee it would have ended any differently without them, but Denver's tendancy towards poorly timed penalties once again helped kill them. On 2nd and 23, Denver donates the Raiders a 32 yard pass interference penalty on the final drive. On that same drive, on 2nd and goal from the 10, a illegal contact penalty renews the Raider's downs rather than forcing them into 4th and goal from the 10. All season long, Denver has been taking borderline disasterous penalties and they need to stop. They happen at 3rd downs and 4th downs for opposing teams and the happen when Denver gets down into the red zone. If they don't go away, Denver's going to have a helluva time having any success.

My friend and I went to go pick up some food at halftime, when the score was a manageable 14-7.

Knowing that we wouldn't get back until a few minutes into the third, while he was turning on the TV I jokingly predicted that the score would be 21-7 with the Bears having given up another TD. Both of our jaws damn near literally hit the floor when we saw the Bears had somehow given up 17 points in about 6 minutes of play in the third quarter, making it 31-7. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE??? :wtf:
