NFL Football 2009

FYI for the Bears fans (as I know there are no other Ravens fans here), the game has been moved to 4:15 due to the enormous dump this Nor'Easter is going to take on Baltimore tomorrow.

What is this game time moved crap?? I want to see both teams slugging it out (or the Ravens slugging it out while the Bears bend over) in THREE FEET OF SNOW!!!

People nowadays are wimps. That's why Super Bowls are never played in northern (non-dome/retractable roof) stadiums anymore.

I had never noticed that before, but sure enough.... it's too bad, too. How much fun would a Snow Bowl be in the final game of the year? Sure, some folks want to see the best teams battle it out under ideal conditions, but watching the best teams slug it out under less than ideal conditions would be pretty fun too!

It was done at the request of the Baltimore and Maryland police and the highway department; because it's supposed to snow through about 11am, they couldn't assure safe passage for the fans to attend the game without a couple of snow-free hours to clear the roads. This is not a heavy snow state and we don't have snow tires and such. The most snow we've EVER had in December is 11 inches and we're not prepared for the traffic to hit in the thick of things. People around here do not know how to drive in this shit. Seriously, the city is already pretty much shut down and there's not even any road accumulation yet.

They have 500 people sleeping at the stadium tomorrow night to clear the snow off the seats and the field is covered, so the game itself is not the reason. The likelihood of people dying trying to get there is the problem.

Though, your assessment of the likely nature of the game is accurate.

Actually I had no idea snow wasn't common in Baltimore. I always mentally lumped Baltimore in with the northeast as far as snow goes and thought you guys would be ready for it.

Oh well...looking forward to seeing the Bears offensive line, Lovie Dovey and Ron Turner shit the bed again. It'll be more ammunition to can the whole lot of them.

Well, shit. Due to the time change in the Bears / Ravens game, I won't be able to see it, as KFXA (the FOX affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which carries over to Dubuque, Iowa) will be showing the Packers game.

Guess you won't be seeing much from me this weekend.

Although news has broken from various Chicago media sources that the Bears have decided to let Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith last another year, while Ron Turner will be the sacrificial lamb.

Yep. Jerry Angelo gets another draft (in a draft in which he has no first-day picks, thanks to a trade for GAINES FUCKING ADAMS).

Fuck it. I'm going into sports hibernation until 2011.

IMO it's the way football is meant to be played.

80 and sunny is for baseball.

Nah, we're Mid-Atlantic; we don't get lake effect snow or anything, and are often spared the worst of storms coming from the mid-west by the mountains. This storm is already the biggest on record for December, state of emergency declared and all that, and there's still about 12-18 hours of snow predicted. The city is at a stand-still. You should see the panic that hit the region as soon as they mention the possibility of flurries. The last time we had anything similar to this was 2003, I think, and in my 33 years in the state, I can recall maybe 5 such storms total, and those were all the result of Nor'Easters like this one.

Well, their Friday night flight was cancelled, and now they're talking about leaving at 9 tonight. Given that the snow is supposed to continue through the evening, we'll see what happens. BWI is still accepting a few flights, so there's a chance... It might even have to be pushed back to the evening or Monday or something now.

eta: The Iggles game has also been pushed back to a 4:15 start now.

Look at it this way - you can go see Avatar in the afternoon like you originally planned.

Snow removal operation at M&T Bank Stadium:

"Snowfall began before midnight and the Ravens’ contractors, as well as a horde of temporary hired help and a handful of church group volunteers, have been at M&T Bank Stadium since daybreak to shovel and plow.

At its peak, 500 to 600 people have been at M&T Bank Stadium at one time, estimated Ravens Event and Guest Services Manager John Cline. An estimated 700 total workers are chipping in.

Workers shovel for an hour-and-a-half and get a 20-minute break before going back to it. By mid-afternoon Saturday, an estimated foot of snow had dropped on the stadium.

“We’ve had some much, much less significant snows,” Cline said. “There’s never been something this major and especially this close to kickoff.”

A group of four dump trucks have been rotating trips from the stadium to the Patapsco River to get rid of the snow. Any worker who feels they cannot travel home from M&T Bank Stadium is welcome to sleep over on the floor of the club level. Workers are free to choose whether they want to resume clearing snow when they wake up or go home."

Mike Holmgren isn't returning to Seattle, so that Cleveland Browns rumor of big bucks and total control might be true. So expect him to clean house, hire a new coach (Gruden?) and draft a QB.

The Cowboys should have lost for no reason other than to punish Nick Folk. When you're a kicker who gets paid to do nothing other than kick, how do you come into a dome, spend all warmup missing chip shots, and then miss the deal-sealing chip shot? He's lucky DeMarcus Ware loves him. Considering that he has the most misses in the league, this is a guy who I can see getting canned.

So the questions are as follows:
Does this help Wade Phillips?
Will beating an unbeaten serve as replacement for a playoff win should they not get one?
Is this a springboard to winning in Dec, breaking their horrid track record of losing the last few years?

I'll break this up so you don't get dinged for posting 3 in a row after the 25th Cutler.

I hear the mod here is a real tool. ;)
