NFL 2024: Chiefs Kingdom Targets a Three-Peat

Brett Farve announced in front of a Congressional Committee on Concussions, that he has Parkinsons possibly due to repeated concussions suffered while playing for Green Bay.

I feel sorry that a person had their lives altered because of football. Not sure I feel sorry for Brett Favre.

So, my dad and I have been exchanging emails over the recent performance of Washington (something that has surprised and thrilled us both this season) and, he being a mathematician all his life, has asked a question about kick-to-doink ratios that I have no clue how to answer, but maybe some hard-core statisticians out there (with a side-interest in math) might have an answer to one of the more enigmatic and lesser-discussed topics of the NFL. The question is:
Is the actual occurrence of a doink (hitting the uprights) during a field goal (FG) or extra point (PAT) attempt higher than would be expected by the probability distribution of such attempts?

That is, assuming a normal (Gaussian) distribution of where the football should go toward the goal posts with most of the attempts going between the uprights (successful) and tailing off to the sides (unsuccessful), the number of times the ball hits the narrow uprights seems all out of proportion to the spaces between and outside. (I am assuming expert kickers are involved and not novices.)

I have found statistics for FG and PAT attempts and misses, but nothing on doinks.

For me, I hear such questions and go :wtf: - he's the Math PhD. I'm the Computer Science guy that makes the CPU think about stuff like this.

How did you feel about the two football games on Monday night?

Next week we have Seattle vs. Detroit in one game, and Will Levis vs. Tim Boyle in the other game.

Lions will probably beat Seattle but I expect it will be a struggle.

Unfamiliar with Jaguars fandom, but they seem to be in denial about Trevor “generational talent” Lawrence. Nothing is his fault because he’s a generational talent. That contract extension is a steal because he’s a generational talent. Everyone else needs to be fired because they’re wasting a generational talent. Are all sports fandoms like this?

Seahawks beat them in Detroit, last year, IIRC. Though I believe this Lions team is better than last years.
We've played each of the last three seasons and Seattle has won all three meetings. The Lions always seem to just fall one step short.

Jordan Love is getting ready to start Sunday against the Vikings.

Miami going with Tyler Huntley at QB.

Buccaneers are feasting on the Eagles today.

Bucs - 24 points / 254 yds offence, Eagles - 0 points, 0 yds offence

Packers offense is dead. Maybe Love should've stayed out another week. Currently 28-0 Vikings in the second quarter as Darnold is lighting it up.

In other news, Mayfield is lighting up the Eagles.
