Is the actual occurrence of a doink (hitting the uprights) during a field goal (FG) or extra point (PAT) attempt higher than would be expected by the probability distribution of such attempts?
That is, assuming a normal (Gaussian) distribution of where the football should go toward the goal posts with most of the attempts going between the uprights (successful) and tailing off to the sides (unsuccessful), the number of times the ball hits the narrow uprights seems all out of proportion to the spaces between and outside. (I am assuming expert kickers are involved and not novices.)
I have found statistics for FG and PAT attempts and misses, but nothing on doinks.
