NFL 2021 season - Belichick Strikes Back

As long as Leftwich isn't a "offensive genius" or "guru", he should do OK.

Being a first round pick himself, he should be able to help Trevor Lawrence adapt to the pro game. From everything I've read, Leftwich is a player's coach, right down to attempting playcalling late in the season to help players reach their incentives.

I hope he does well.

Ouch!

The Los Angeles Times reports that ticket resale site Vivid Seats is estimating that 65 percent of fans in attendance will be 49ers fans. Vivid Seats estimated the crowd at 60 percent 49ers fans for the regular season game. Meanwhile, the secondary ticket site TickPick said the Rams’ attempt to curtail sales to customers outside of Los Angeles is an ineffective tactic that sometimes backfires and motivates fans of the road team to get more aggressive about buying tickets on resale sites.

I didn't even know teams were allowed to refuse to sell tickets to visiting fans.

Smacks of paranoia, to be honest.

The Milwaukee Brewers have done the same thing with Cubs fans, since they turn "Miller" Park into Wrigley North so often.

Apparently empty seats are less embarrassing than being filled with the other team's colors.

Jacksonville seems to have picked Byron Leftwich as their new head coach.

They are building from the ground up there, literally because Urban burned it all to the ground. It may be an overused term, but if Leftwich can build a culture like Dan Campbell did with the Lions, I think he's got a good shot.

With my picks last week, I'm up to 7-3 for the playoffs.

Cincinnati vs. Kansas City - Cincinnati. Why not? The Chiefs are probably going to win, but Burrow has been hot (won me a fantasy championship too) and I'd much rather see a long suffering franchise finally get a shot.

Los Angeles vs. San Francisco - Los Angeles. Cheering for Stafford and the Rams have the pedigree to win.

Bears to hire Colts DC Matt Eberflus as their new head coach.

Dan Quinn staying put in Dallas.

Ben Roethlisberger retires.

Adrian Wilson of Arizona to replace Trent Baalke as GM in Jacksonville.

Dan Quinn staying put in Dallas.

Mike McCarthy better be looking over his shoulder. Between Quinn and Sean Payton, 2022 will be Super Bowl or bust for Dallas.

Bears finished 6th in defense, but somewhere near the bottom in offense. Definitely gonna need a top flight OC now, Lazar isn't it.

Bears traditionally seem to have more success with defensive coaches. So I’m not surprised they went down that road this time. Just bring in an OC/QB coach that can get on the same page with Eberflus and Fields.

Obviously more important that the HC can connect with the players. We've had quite a few that couldn't do that.

Ditka was, what, an assistant coach when the Bears brought him back as head coach? Until he snapped, he was a really good HC.

Eberflus is an interesting hire.

I don’t think Ditka’s antics would fly with the modern player. They would quickly tune him out.

That's the player's problem. Too many overpaid babies. He was the perfect fit for those 80's teams.

It would actually be more his problem. Football teams are more like modern workplaces now, not Marine boot camps.

He would have to change or be left off the football field.

This week on Deadspin.....

"Don't give Mike McDaniel a head coaching job because he's white. What do you mean he's bi-racial? I'll just delete my Twitter account now."

"We at Deadspin regret the error but are leaving the article up in its original form because race-baiting virtue signaling gets a lot of clicks."

Don't give Vichy Deadspin any clicks.
