Next! Your choice for the next Doctor.

I would be pretty happy with Sacha Dhawan. He was good in An Adventure in Space and Time and he was one of the best things about Iron Fist (really, he should have been Danny).

The Daily Mail reports that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is likely to be cast.

As much as I really want to believe this news (I loved her in Fleabag and Broadchuch), it's coming from the Daily Mail. I won't believe this until it comes from a reliable source. Their nickname is the Daily Fail for a reason.

I think she was asked at the BAFTAS last night and said it was rubbish...of course she would wouldn't she ;)

She's shooting the Han Solo movie right now, as well. And she's also someone that creates her work... I can't see her wanting to get locked into something that will suck up so much of her time for other people's work.

It's probably I good thing I don't know these performers. That way, I don't have any preconceived biases against them. I remember a sizeable number of fans "distressed" at the notion of Catherine Tate appearing on the show, and my reaction was, "Uh? Who?" I guess it's one of the minor advantages of being a bloody Yank with little to no knowledge of (current) British pop and entertainment culture.

I'm in the same boat.. I'd prefer not to know much about the actor(s) who take the role.. I vaguely knew of CE before he took the role and only knew DT from Harry Potter... Capaldi, of course, was from an episode of DW and Local Hero, but that's it. As much as I think a "known" actor would do a fine job, it would take away from the role for me.

I'm wondering less WHO the next Doctor will be, and more curious when they will release the name.
What do you think? Right after the series finale? Right before? Right before they start filming the Christmas special?

DW Brand Manager Ed Russell said recently that they won't be able to keep it secret to Christmas as the next series will have started shooting before then.

Which is actually good news as it means we might not be waiting until Autumn 2018 for the next series after all.

At least after season 10 is finished. Capaldi wasn't announced until early August, so I wouldn't be surprised if we're dealing with the same time frame.

That's what I would expect to. I also suspect regeneration shenanigans--we won't be seeing a regeneration in the series proper, it'll be in the Christmas special--no matter how much it's been teased.

I didn't realize Russell was still employed in that way. I thought he'd gone.

That is good news, as I'd heard recently that spring 2019 for series 11 was a possibility.

Yeah, if they start skipping an entire year between every series, or even just two in a row, then it will be time to wonder if Michael Grade 2.0 is running the BBC and actively trying to kill the show.

Gods I hope not. They'll likely lose a lot of viewers waiting that long.

What I'd heard was that Chibnall wanted a months-long vacation to recharge between wrapping up his work on Broadchurch and starting work on Who, which would push the debut of his Who into early 2019, so about fifteen months between Capaldi's final Christmas special and the debut of Chibnall's series.

I don't blame Chibnall at all for wanting this, if true. Really, it's the fault of the BBC itself for making some really bad decisions in tolerating Moffat's "I'll make Who when I want to" attitude for so long.

Or if that is true Chibnall can quit. Got to be plenty of people who can deliver in time.

Why should he quit? They offered him the job, I'm sure a break was a condition of accepting it. What makes you think he won't deliver it in the time agreed upon?
