The Daily Mirror says a female Doctor flat-out ain't happening - the BBC wants Tennant 2.0.
Uh-huh. I'll believe it when I see it from a credible source.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if BBC does want another young, dashing male in his 30's for the reasons stated in that post that barely qualifies as an article.

Never thought about Alexander Siddig, but I agree he'd be great. I kinda like the idea of John Boyega as The Doctor. From what I've seen of him in TFA and "Imperial Dreams" (playing ex-con single father trying to make a better life for himself and his son), he has the range to do it well, IMO.
As much as I love Olivia Colman, I'd rather not have her as The Doctor. Part of The Doctor's character is the boy who never grows up archetype, and it just won't work with a woman in the role. There is (and has been) plenty of room for very strong, independent women as companions (a la Sarah Jane Smith).

Not news - that's been the BBC's private view for months.
I don't think that's such a great idea, the Doctor is part of British pop-culture; it'd be like casting a brit to play Superman.

I was thinking of Henry Cavil when i wrote that post. Batman or Spiderman isn't quite "American-as-apple-pie" like Superman is.
Hell, the classic American actors from the first half of the 20th century adopted the so-called "Trans-Atlantic" accent, which was largely British pronunciation but American, usually North-East, vocabulary. It was considered to be an upper-class accent.

Oriental describes rugs and furniture.
Asian describes people from Asia or of Asian descent.
Oh I see. I didn't want to use Asian as I specifically meant someone from Japan, China and so on as opposed to somewhere like India (don't get me wrong, I'd be happy with an Indian doctor as well). Oriental's always a term I've used.
I'd advise against using it to the face of anyone Asian regardless of the country they've been born in...
Interesting. A few days ago I'd heard a credible (to me, anyway) assertion that the new Doctor has already been cast.
I remember on a radio show many years ago, the DJ/host had some Asian guys on (long time ago, I really just don't remember too much). The DJ said something to the effect that the term "Oriental" was bad/racist and the Asian guys were all like "WTF are you talking about?".
I think it's a term that differentiates between Chinese/Japanese/Thai Asians and Indian/Pakistani Asians. I don't think the term was created to be offensive like some obvious ones were. Oriental at it's simplest means "east" or "eastern".
