Next! Your choice for the next Doctor.

Damn...now I'm not sure which I want more. Bellman as The Doctor or as Missy. Both sound amazing. If Mylan does become The Doctor, then Bellman has to be Missy. They already have a history. :D

After the Doctor and Bill's 4th wall nudging rooftop chat in this week's episode I think the odds of a female Doctor are swinging up again.

We'll most probably find out on Saturday. (Either in the episode - they're still finishing up post - or tagged on to the Q&A after,)

I would be over-the-moon happy if they manage to keep the new Doctor under wraps for a surprise reveal. It's a shame they can't keep quiet when the current Doctor is leaving, but this would be a step in the right direction. I still have my fingers crossed for a female Doctor.

If we don't find out in the episode, I'm sure we'll get an announcement in the next few weeks afterwards.

The rumor I've heard is that we'll see the new Doctor's face next week, mid-regeneration and recognizable, not unlike the Hunt-Eccleston regeneration in "Day of the Doctor." In other words, the regeneration is happening and the Doctor's face has changed into the new form, but it's not done yet.

Saw a similar rumor myself. That we'll see the Doctor partially regenerate, giving us a clear look at our next lead, before Twelve is able to force if back, hold it off for a time, and continue on with the adventure as Capaldi. A little bit of Moffat having his cake and eating it too. Sounds dumb to me in theory, but what do I know?

I doubt it'll go like that. It'll probably be similar to last week, regenerating Doctor in the pre-credits teaser, this time with the new Doctor's face being glimpsed, then we go back to the main story for the rest of the episode, ultimately culminating in the regeneration being seen in full at Christmas.

Apologies if someone has already said this, but I'd love to see Paterson Joseph as the Doctor. He is funny (Peep Show), is a great serious actor, and I also feel could be very mysterious in a slightly creepy way. He'd be great.

If they were going to go with a high profile, in demand film actor like Tilda Swinton or Tom Hiddleston, I think they should make a counteroffer. Instead of reducing the number of episodes per season, just sign them to a 1-year contract instead of the usual 3 years.

After rewatching the last few seasons of "Law and Order," I realized that I would love to see Linus Roache as the Doctor.

Well, that/s pretty much what happened with Eccles...

Yeah, with the Christmas special already filming, they are going to need someone very soon, unless they plan on doing a regeneration scene similar to how they did the Eccleston to Tennant transition. Even then, I can't imagine announcing the new Doctor any later than September.

Or maybe they're intentionally waiting until August 4: announce the new Doctor on the four year anniversary of when Capaldi was announced?

Benedict Cumberbatch
I have been watching him in Sherlock Holmes and his rapid fire manic delivery with emotional undercurrents would translate into the Doctor very well IMO.

Before RTD said he knew who the next Doctor was, I'd been told by a media contact of long acquaintance, someone who (imho) would be in a position to know, that it was common knowledge in the media bubble around the series that the new actor was hired in April, though my contact (and others in the media bubble) didn't know who that actor (male or female) was.

I wonder if there's a small chance they could do a live reveal at SDCC during the BBC panel in two weeks.

Otherwise, I think there's a real chance that they're going to attempt to keep the identity of the new Doctor secret until the Christmas special airs. Tom Spilsbury of DWM talked in that direction in January when Capaldi abruptly and unexpectedly announced his departure.

Won't happen. He's unavailable for Sherlock due to demand on other projects. We'd see a very choppy Who schedule if he were cast -- one series every eighteen months or so.

They'll fail - filming on series 11 starts in the autumn, so the new Doctor will be out in public, getting photographed...
