Newer dvd re-releases that switched to single layer from dual layer dvds?

Was watching the new technology connections video about dvd sets and I had no idea that some of these new dvd complete series collections are worse than old seasons because they switched to single layer dvds and re-encoded them with worse bitrate.

Anyone here can check their DS9 set to see if its dual or single layer dvd?

The DS9 and VOY DVD re-releases continue to use the exact same encoding that was on the original releases.

If that dude has single-layer versions, he bought bootlegs.

[I didn't watch the video, so apologies if that's exactly what he says. :)]

I have a bootleg, I have the DS9 one, and the DS9 one was all dual layer.
My Voyager set is a bootleg.

There was a thread here recently where someone unknowingly got a single-layer bootleg of TNG.

Now I need to go look at my DS9 set. It's the same box design as Alec's there, but I'd bought it from Best Buy... or I hope I had... am going to check... then add some more ellipses... and then a dash of exclamation - oh wait, I got it in 2018 from Amazon. It's probably the real thing, and the only thing better than the real thing is the U2 vid I mean a proper 35mm restoration, but it's all good...

Alec's a really brainy person with a really great way to explain technologies. Might call him a smart Alec... :shifty:

:guffaw:

Also, speaking better of better than the real thing, was an alternate mix of the real thing back in 1991:
