New Voyages-"World Enough"

It's been a long time since a Trek episode or work of any medium has had as much emotional punch as WEaT has. Outstanding stuff.

I have finally viewed the episode and I am really blown away. I am not going to pick it apart because in my mind it was wonderful. I was highly entertained and tuned the real world out for one hour and four minutes.

Mr. George Takei--holy crap! I never knew he was that damn good......I really wish he had more times to shine like that in the "official" Trek productions. I do not want to give anything away but he was VERY powerful on the screen.

I wish Mr Crawley and company would produce a whole hour of Capt Sulu and the Excelcior with the same quality. I think that would be great to see.

Over all I am just stunned at the writing and overall quality of this production. AND even though they are having problems.....they met their release date!!

Yes, I have "I robot" in DVD.

This statement is so wrong on so many levels. The similarities between the book by Asimov and the film are the title and the names of some characters and the corporation.

Asimovs stories about robots were an effort to make real and belivable characters of them and to raise them above the modern interpretation of the Frankenstein/Golem story of the human trying to play god and create life, which (since creating live is the providence of god only) then murders him.

The film cast the robots in that old role ans such goes against Asimovs intention for writing his robotic characters. It is in severity quite similar to digging up Asimovs grave and raping his corpse.

In comparison, "Starship Troopers" was pretty faithful to Heinleins book.

Sorry for the rant, but, god, do i hate that movie!

Well, that goes to show that you aren't always given the right information, even if you are working on the set. Since I'm mostly an Original Series girl, I wouldn't know the difference and believed what I was I told. Anyway, thanks for searching out the pics.

Thanks for the explanation of why you thought it was green-screened. I know they were acting on a built set but I also didn't watch every moment, so I suppose if there was an effect they needed to throw a green screen at, they could have. Although I wouldn't know where.

As for the lighting -- since I don't normally work on the set, I wouldn't know how it compares to what a production should be. Besides, I'm useless with a camera or I'd have nifty behind the scenes photos to show you.

I did talk a little bit about the conditions under which some of those scenes were shot in LA and put up a couple of pics of the bridge set on my personal blog at:

http://dannygirlpaceyjack.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

if you care to look. (Oct 21, 2006) I wouldn't want to spoil the magic here. I have pictures of how little of the set was actually built buried somewhere, but like I said I'm not the greatest of photographers. That's why I try to stay in the writers office.

This appears to be the exact same torrent I downloaded when I wasn't supposed to (my BitTorrent client says I already have it). So I guess it's retroactively official. Was I counted as a viewer? EDIT: I downloaded it from the same site before it was taken down.

I finally got the time to sit down and watch the whole.

To all who were involved in creating this - BRAVO!

On every level is an astounding achievement. It really did feel like watching an actual episode.

The regular New Voyages cast has improved tremendously. More and more there is a relaxed naturalness. Contrasted to forced stiffness of past episodes.

James Cawley particularly shined in his scenes with Sulu's daughter. I am starting to see "his Kirk" and real emotional reactions. Too often he tries to emulate Shatner's speaking style. Which is not to bash him at all. That is what people would expect. Now those mannerisms are becoming more intuitive.

I would really like to see a future episode that focused squarely on Kirk himself.

SUCCESS!

*Initiates torrent download*

I honestly cannot wait to see this after the rave reviews I've seen for it.

Any arrangements for an ordinary direct download being made for those who can't torrent?

Been 6 whole days...Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Activates ACME Exeter Patience Stasis Generator(tm)...BEEP BEEP! Flashing red lights! OH NO, BATTERIES DRAINED FROM YEAR LONG USEAGE! :wtf:
What'll I do now??! Aaaaahhhhhhh! :scream:

Would somebody take pity on a befuddled old fart and direct me to a faq page that explains in PLAIN ENGLISH how to use Torrent? I've got it downloaded, but all they is you're "all set, go ahead and download!" Uhhhh...how?

If there is no FAQ page, maybe someone could, y'know, like explain it?

I too will wait for a download without Torrent. Hopefully someone will upload the ep and post a link here. Be better if NV did it themselves.

You could always try this page at wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bittorrent

Hope it helps. :)

Thank you, Nick. It certainly does help explain the concept, but I do not understand how to get it to download.

I need someone to tell me how to do it step by step. Yes, I know that the wiki page tells how to do it, but it assumes that I understand things that I don't.

Could someone please tell me what information (the specific information for WEAT) to enter where? (which window in what piece of software).

I'm sure it's easy when you know how, but it's not intuitive.

HELP! please? :)

Ok Mike, I'll suppose you are running Windows.

First: download a torrent client (the program to download torrents files). I recommend uTorrent. You can download it from here: http://download.utorrent.com/1.7.2/utorrent.exe

Second: execute the software. It'll ask if you want to create shortcuts on your start menu, quick launcher and desktop. Choose what you prefer and click OK.

Third: uTorrent will ask if you want to associate the progran to *.torrent files. Click Yes.

Fourth: go to http://newvoyages.blogsite.org/ and click over the link to WEaT torrent and choose to open when asked.

Fifth: A window will appear on uTorrent. Confirm it.

Sixth: wait for the download. When done, go to the folder where the file was save and watch it.

These are really basic steps. If you have further doubts let us know.

Thank you very much! I am downloading as I type this. I'm sure you've helped a lot of people with that post.

For those of you new to the magical world of torrents: Your initial download estimate will be - well, as bad as it was BEFORE the torrents. This drops of REALLY fast as you get more "help". Patience, grasshopper. It eventually downloads like a Tempest! ;)

You're not the only one. I've heard from a few others who have taken that position. I know that I had to use my son's system to retrieve the episode and that having a Torrent client (among other software options) on either of my other systems (used for work) is grounds for termination. A lot of companies are putting a real emphasis on staying as vanilla as possible, so anything beyond right-click, save as and Windows Media Player can get you in trouble.

I'm sure the episode will be available as a simple download soon enough.
