To explain it in universe, sure. But I don’t think we’ll see Burnam et al permanently in them anytime soon.

According to David Mack's novel, the Constitution fleet gets its own uniforms different from the rest of Starfleet. So, in the event we do see another Constitution in Disco, their crew could be wearing these TOS-ish uniforms too.

Really that's how they explained it. Why not just have the a class A and class B uniforms? Discovery's should be the class A sense most of the fleet use's them and the ones on the Enterprise are the more casual class B that some Captains like better. They did this in the TNG time frame with the DS9 and Next Gen uniforms so why not here.

I agree with those who think they look really great in all but the silly shoulder bands. It almost seems like the costume is trying really hard to convince others (or themselves) they were a good artist choice to begin with.

I don't know how respectful it is. That command uniform is gold instead of avocado velour. It's an avocanon velouration.

Right, I have read that and thought it was clever. Same for the explanation of why the Enterprise didn’t have the proto hologram and just used the main viewer.

And yet, I still don’t think we’ll see the Discovery crew in full time TOS colors.
But I also think we collectively are putting a greater importance on the canon status of the novels. The Harberts and Berg aren’t beholden to them.

It's more in the general feel and ambiance. TOS replicated a naval setting and nautical life and transplanted it to space. The others didn't really.

Yes but not down to every detail. I'm pretty sure they used the same set for everyone's cabin.

They are building a whole storyline (or worse, the season) around superficial set pieces from the previous shows

Perhaps Mr. Mack can chime in here, but didn't he say that the crews of Constitution class ships wear The Cage uniforms? These new uniforms I'm seeing aren't The Cage uniforms.
