i mean the costume designers on STO have for a long time made uniforms that look vey reminiscent of this new away team outfit. With lethery patches, extra lines, and the current Romulan Republic Uniforms look extremely close to it, too. Let me see, if i can find a screenshot.

Fascinating. I wouldn't be surprised if the STB designers were poking around STO. I recall the future-TNG uniforms from IDW's "Countdown" prequel were based on STO unis too.
Scotty's new boots are definitely closer to TOS.

No, I'm betting they are arguing against a new uniform whilst the ship is out on its own away from Starfleet design trends (and has been since the end scene of the last film). However, there's no evidence these uniforms weren't in service as of ST:ID... Kirk and McCoy are wearing swimsuits for their away mission on Nibiru because that makes sense. The "away team" are in civvie disguise for the mission to Qo'Nos for plausible deniability. And in suits again for the spacejump to the Vengeance. So at no point do we see an Away Mission that would feature "standard away uniform"... and therefore the blue suits might well be in use.
Alternatively, Starfleet just sent the fabricator patterns via subspace, said "new duds, update whenevz" and Kirk liked the look enough to crank that shit out ASAP.
I think it looks a cross between that and the TOS Battlestar Galactica Colonial Warrior uniform, complete with big shoulder pads, leg holster strap and motocross boots. Everything old becomes new again...
Gotta agree. It looks to me like a 'pimped up' version of the away team jackets worn in "The Cage".

I really like that uniform! Though Scotty's still a Wiggle. If there's tweaks I'm holding my thumbs for Uhura and the female extras to get pants added to her standard costume.
