I don't think many people here were defending the idea of watching TOS on old film on a black and white TV with rabbit ears....it was just the idea that DVD wasn't good enough.

Just watched Charlie X in HD:
- Shatner has what looks like black cayal around his eyes
- DeKelly apperantly has blueish make up on his eyelids..
WTF?

- the blood looks totally fake. Its the wrong color...it really looks like Kirk had a mishap while painting a wall or something

Not for anything, but thanks for that info. I am creating a "60's" room in my house and wanted to make sure the TV set up is correct. No coax - check ;-)

I don't have the high def DVDs but when I watched the Paradise Syndrome remastered I really noticed the flies in some of the scenes.
I think one thing that happens with HD viewing is that we notice details that weren't necessarily unobservable on SD sources but that HD really makes some of those things "pop". I was watching the Blu Ray of Kiss of the Dragon and I couldn't take my eyes off the big pock mark on the tip of Jet Li's nose.
I think another factor is when you are looking with expectation at an HD viewing you pay more attention than you do when you watch "just another rerun". Like with the Star Wars Special Editions sometimes I thought they had dolled up some cool FX only to watch the original and seeing that it had always looked that way.

The Mrs has taken away my Blu-Ray player remote for the night, so I can't double check this one, but I'm sure I noticed during The Immunity Syndrome, in the opening teaser : you get a glimpse of Kyle/Cowall at the helm in his regular red shirt, but after the titles he is in gold for the rest of the episode.

When the cloud creature starts heading towards the Enterprise, Chekov notices a vent is open.

I just watched Immunity Syndrome this weekend, but didn't notice Kyle's shirt color change.
BTW, some people complained that the PQ in season 2 isn't as stunning as season 1 on Blu-Ray. We know that the production values were a little lower in season 2. However, I found the PQ in Immunity Syndrome to be very impressive - probably the best of any season 2 episode I've seen yet.
And, although I've been enjoying the new effects, I found I like the original effects better on this episode.

I agree - loved the "Enterprise in the dark" shots, but apart from those, the original effects beat the CGI hands down.
The CGI continues to be a mixed bag for me, but the incredible picture quality is well worth the upgrade to Blu Ray.
Personally, I haven't noticed any drop off in quality between seasons 1 and 2.
Picture quality? Metamorphosis really stood out for me. The colours, the colours...
WNMHGB, it was pointed out in another thread that Kirk and Spock have different colored shirts than the other officers, theirs are gold, the others are sand, blue, red. After the recorder beacon is beamed aboard and Kirk and Spock head for the bridge, there is one other command officer with a gold colored uniform, a woman in the corridor. Kirk and Spock are moving to the left, she is moving to the right - from behind the ladder, just before the shot ends she is inbetween Spock and a crewman in a sand shirt, you can really see the color difference.

The Blu-Rays are much better than the DVDs for both seasons. In Season 1, I think they took more time w/ setting up the shots, and we thus see many more astonishing shots w/ greater detail. In Season 2, they had the assembly line running, and they didn't take as much time w/ set-up. Thus, the overall detail is not quite as high, and the lighting is a little more generic.
However, even the Season 2 episodes that look slightly "flat" to me (e.g. Obsession) still have richer colors, better contrast, and more detail than we've ever seen before.
