During the scenes where Clara was at home or running to the TARDIS, I didn't see any snow, and it was Christmas?
I actually looked it up on Google. It was truly not snowing in London (where Clara lives) on Christmas Eve 2013. Cold, rainy and windy (in fact, quite a bit of flooding across the UK in parts), but no snow. (Scotland got it instead.)
Where I live, in Germany, snow on christmas is the exception these days.
I seem to remember that used to ge different when I was a child, but I suspect I view my childhood christmases through frost covered nostalgia glasses and it was less traditionally romantic as the seasonal narrative wants to make me believe.

That is actually pretty weird. If the show was set in California or somewhere else that never had snow, I wouldn't have batted an eyelash but I just kept thinking, um, they're in the UK. As far as I know snow does occur.

I just want to remark that if your intention is to go back and view Eccelston, its good to bear in mind that going from "Time of the Doctor" back to "Rose" will be a bit like watching Trek's "All Good Things..." and then going back to watch "Encounter At Farpoint". The first series took a few episodes to get its footing, after all it basically was starting fresh after 18 years (not counting the movie). Eccelston "got" his character pretty much from the start; its just some of the scripts are a bit wonky (IMO), especially in retrospect.

I just remembered something odd from The Rings Of Akhaten. The Doctor mentions visiting before with his granddaughter but it seems to go over Clara's head.

Well the UK has a somewhat variable climate at the moment we are basking in tematures which have hit 35C (95F) and whilst that might be cool to someparts of the world it is hot for the UK. And as I'm sure other Brits will atest to you can get snow in the morning and have a nice spring day in the afternoon.

I'm not sure if Clara was paying attention to him anymore at that point.
Poor Susan. I wonder if we will see her again? I'm sure Capaldi would love to have a story with the Doctor finally going back to see her as he promise, oh so many faces ago.
Capaldi's made it crystal clear he wants Susan back, preferably while she's still Carole Ann Ford (assuming Susan can regenerate). Carole's up for a reunion episode, but at age 75 the window of opportunity's closing fast.
Moffat would also have to account for the fact that McGann's Eighth Doctor did reunite with Susan in the Big Finish audios (with tragic results - not to Susan herself, though).

The doctor misunderstood what happened, thought that his greatgrandson, maybe others, died, when they hadn't, but reacted as if they did, was never told otherwise and spiraled into a depression.
