I was waiting for someone to mention that.

I actually think the TNG engine room looks better with that control desk than it did in STVI. I actually thought back to the commercial when I saw the vaguely similar control desk by the core in Into Darkness!

I'm more than certain the commercial has nothing to do with character development or the next movie.

The odds of the next movie actually having any "character development" are pretty small.
