I was teetering on giving it a 6 but my mind didn't wander while watching, so I went with a 7 but it's a very soft 7.

One thing that I think helps to make this feel one more like a short for a Pike Series is that the beginning didn't have the Discovery-style intro and the closing credits had their own music.

That because they are now moving away from all Short Treks being ST: D related. The last two this year are:
1) A set up for ST: P
2) A fully animated Star Trek episode (but not in the supposed style for either the "Lower Decks" or Nickelodeon animated series).

The 2 left this year are animated, and then the Picard prequel in January.

There were little snippets of both of the animated shorts at the end of Ask Not.

Ephraim and Dot, as was expected, seems to be about a tardigrade and a robot. It's also been rumored to have no script whatsoever, just visuals and musical accompaniment. The surprise is the trailer shows that the Enterprise is the location of the short (NCC-1701 can clearly be seen). Animation style is traditional 2-D.

Nothing much is known about The Girl who Made the Stars. Looks like it's 3D animated style, and I believe it is scripted. May be a prequel to Star Trek: Prodigy. The little clip just shows a young black girl holding some glowing egg thing, watching a shooting star, then going down into a cave.

Supposedly it's based on the story Michael tells in the opening monologue of "Brother"

that would be great, but kirk thatcher (punk on a bus from star trek IV) did some voice work for it. but it could be some WALL-E style emotional robot noises. if you're right and there's no dialogue, i am even more stoked on this than before.

Kurtzman has been on record that one of the two animated Treks has no script, just music. Given this short is being directed by Michael Giacchino. the composer for Star Trek: Discovery, it would make sense that he had the "musical" short.

pike's hair is interesting...

And given what the two main characters seem to be, it would make sense.
As for Ask Not, I enjoyed it. I thought the actress who played Sidhu did a pretty good job, not phenomenal, but good. Anson Mount of course was great like usual. It really was pretty obvious what was going on once Pike knew all about Sidhu and her husband happened to be on the ship that was attacked.
The mask they had him in at the beginning, that broke apart and sucked into the case, was cool.
Loved the Discoprise engineering.
I gave this one a 9 when I first got on the thread, but now that I've sat on it a bit, I think I would probably take it down to a 7 if I could.

I gave it an 8. Might have been a 9 if it was longer and they tried to keep the drama going.

Glad to see more Pike this time. I'm hoping for a Pike era series a little more each short.

I personally loved it! I thought it was fun, short, simple and to the point. I really like the new style of the Short Treks...just simple stories for us to enjoy while waiting for the new seasons to kick off again.

Meh. Screaming regulations at each other really isn't my idea of a good time. I also don't understand how letting Pike go would've been a bad choice. Regulations supported both.

As far as the Prime universe goes, someone should let the advertising people know. "Two new Short Treks from a new universe".
