They should have an Enterprise Class. I always thought it took away from the Enterprise's slightly that none of them were ever an Enterprise Class....
I mean were the Constitution, Excelsior, Constellation, Galaxy or Sovereign better ships???

I think the NX-01 should have been an Enterprise class- if ANY ship deserved it it was that one. They just called it an NX class, which is rather stupid since NX has meant experimental and NCC production fo rmost of trek-lore.
I can't see what you're talking about. Why would it take away from the Enterprise if they're not Enterprise class? Enterprise class doesn't exist, and yes...
as times went on, the constitution, excelsior, ambassador, galaxy and sovereign classes were the best of the time period and the pride of the fleet, hence having an Enterprise made from them.
What would having an 'Enterprise class' accomplish exactly? So they make one in the Kirk era and by Picard's time the whole class will go out of commission and in museums. Makes no sense.
Actually I think having the Enterprise as pqart of another class works in a way. It automatically implies a fllet of similar craft and the Enterprise was an exceptional vessel not because of it's mechanical componants but it's crew.
What if the class ended up as a real loser? The Ambassador class was not too successful with th esmall number of ships remaining that we saw on TNG/DS-9. The Miranda and Excelsior classes seemed to work out much better. Now that you think about it you only saw one other Constitution Refit shoi EVER ans it was wreckage in the battle of Wolf 359.

Isn't there a leaked script line or visible diagram on the bridge saying the Enterprise is still a Constitution-class vessel, though? Someone at some point claimed one or both.

I'd be inclined to doubt that there was a leaked script line. As for the claim: any idea where or when that might have been? A lot of claims of one thing or another are made -- some even turn out to have substance -- but this doesn't sound like anything I recall seeing posted here.
