New Ships Revealed!

When you look at the full picture, there are a few ships that have two nacelles on the top, and one on the bottom (although since we know that the Kelvin only had one nacelle, those ships might only have two).

So I messed around a bit, upped the contrast to these for detail.

I love the one to the right of the station that has a Miranda/Loknar feel but a lower nacelle. Perhaps a deflector. The top left ship seems to be the same class.

Left of the station...

Most of the ships seem to have the Kelvin-style engines. I guess the Enterprise's super-duper swoopy ones are the next generation ones inspired by the Time line disruption.

I could complete that line and actually agree with the assessment, because it really does feel like they just slapped shit together for these ships. It's like their version of the Frankenfleet.

It's just great to see ships on the OUTSIDE of the starbase like this. Rather than the mushroom design that didn't make any sense. It's a stunning design and will look great on the big screen.

I think if you look at the image, excluding the Ent, there's only about 2, maybe 3 different designs for the other ships. Looks like a variant Constellation though in there.

I'm also liking the fact that the Enterprise is the most beautiful and sleek ship out there. Works quite well.

Excellent point.

A little more respect for common sense on the part of Abrams and company than Bennett's designers showed.

With the Federation always building the next ship bigger than the last I always wondered about a Spacedock with that design. They did show a Galaxy class entering one, but that was just an optical fudge with old footage.
As mentioned above I really like the ships docking around the outriggers. Much more flexible and practical.

Neat ships, kind of a retro feel. Its to their credit that they have some elements of old Trek but with a configuration we rarely see.

I see the Feds are finally giving the Cardies a run for their quatloos in starbase design. ;)

Okay, they got me. That one's my wallpaper till all this Star Trek fuss blows over.

Yea, I agree. This entire production, from the costumes and designs on down, has a great retro feel. There's a large retro element in the various designs we see in our world today. I think the designs on this production remind me of the rather Art Deco vibe from ST:TMP... as in classy, classic, and wow I'm impressed. The USS Kelvin alone is the shabazz.

This film will look soooo gorgeous on the big screen. I might even try our local rat hole theatre. Can't believe I might get my arse out for a Trek film. When did that happen last?

Yep they used the shot from STIII with the E-D superimposed on top of it. Everyone on the model team begged them not to, going so far as to develop a way for the E-D to dock to the outside of the Mushroom, but in the end the producers won.
