One thing I also like: Sulu apparently uses a Katana in the film, but here it says that he is into European swordmanship. I was worried that they saw an asian guy whom liked like swords so they gave him a katana. Maybe not.

Maybe he just prefers to fight with the katana but does the euro stuff for fun as a hobby. I remember that TOS episode where he's runnin around the ship with what looked like aword used for fencing...I don't really remember...

Directors cut replaces the starry, moon filled sky with an atmosphere reminiscent of that seen in ST:III and ST:IV, so, yeah, they took care of it. CANON FIXED!
