new pics for S7 (spoilers about a foe's return)

I have to admit that the gold Daleks first introduced during the Ninth Doctor's era have become my favorite design (this after decades of the gray and black ones I first saw during the Fourth Doctor's time being my favorite). I didn't hate the new design introduced with the Eleventh Doctor, but I never saw them as being more than a special division of Daleks.

I think the Daleks only ever looked cool in "Dalek." The Dalek in that episode looked like it was actually made of metal; it looked heavy because the damn thing didn't slide around easily or wobble all the time; it didn't bob its eyestock up and down every time it spoke. It looked genuinely menacing and alien. Every Dalek since has just seemed cartoonish.

The eyestalk bobbing makes no sense. I know which one is talking because of the flashing lights. That's the whole reason they exist!

I wish Joe Ahearne had directed more episodes.

Shame the new Daleks never caught on. I understand the complaints about the hump-back, but I was really digging the retro 60s colors and larger, more imposing size. :(
I thought they also spoke in a more cunning, sinister voice. It was a subtle change I was liking.

I'm still convinced the only reason the hump is there is because someone in the prop dept got their measurements wrong.

Now that's a Dalek!

I nearly posted that this morning, having seen in on Facebook, but since it's April 1st I couldn't bring myself to believe it isn't photoshopped.

But I've since had independent confirmation that it's real, so... Yay.

You can also just see the base of an RTD-era Dalek at the back between Amy and the 60s Dalek....

I'm just surprised that "Spoilers Are Evil" Moffat is giving so much away so soon.

(And boy are those 1960's Daleks tiny!)

There's "spoilers are evil" and then there's "look what happened to John Carter with there being no teasers to attract interest at all"

Of course, few of the 60s-era Daleks survive, and none in 60s colours. (and they'd look awful in HD) - that's a fan-owned modern repro. AIUI, to get the mix of Daleks they want, they've been been borrowing them from fans.

Personally, I just hope they've had the good taste to hire Dalek Storm to make a cameo.

Well, there have been rumours that Spain was doing double duty as a location this year. Both as the western town for the Ben Browder cowboy episode, and---possibly---as Skaro.

Personally, I just hope they've had the good taste to hire Dalek Storm to make a cameo.

That, I would love to see.

I'm by no means the biggest Dalek fan out there (the new series has only produced one great Dalek story: "Dalek") but I have to say I'm thrilled to see classic series Dalek alongside The Doctor and Amy. I can't wait to see what Moffat has in store for the Daleks this time around.

Steven Moffat posted these comments on Twitter 24 hours ago; I had no idea what he was on about until I saw these photos:

After extensive deliberation, THE DOCTOR HAS SPOKEN. Matt Smith likes the sixties Dalek best.

This just in: Amy Pons concurs. The Last Centurian - @RattyBurvil - has yet to speak.

Clearly part of the photo shoot / filming.

Or just general discussion.
