Spoilers New Picard TV Series and Litverse Continuity (may contain TV show spoilers)

For all that I'd like to remain more optimistic, I get the scepticism.

So what happens when this happens? Is there any way for the books as they are to have some sort of wrap-up / conclusion? Or is that continuity severed and left hanging?

If anyone realistically thinks Alex Kurtzman will accede to anyone else's interpretation of Section 31, they are dreaming. For better or for worse, Section 31 is Kurtzman's baby!

For anyone not following me, consider how Into Darkness and Discovery alike depicted Section 31 as possessing their own capital ship(s). And how the depiction of being a structured Starfleet division arguably stands at odds with Deep Space Nine's depiction of Section 31 being dependent on disaggregation and stealth to get the job done. And that regular Starfleet members greatly respect Section 31, to say nothing of the admiralty (*cough* Marcus *cough*) making significant use of Section 31's resources, which are only barely hidden from public view. But does that matter to Kurtzman and co.? Nope. They love their Federation CIA running around in black uniforms, black badges, and black ships.

So ask yourself: What are the reasonable odds Picard would actually allow someone else's work to take Section 31 off the story table while Kurtzman is helming Trek?
Although I agree with the point you're making, I also don't consider it very likely we're going to see Section 31 in Picard. Simply put, I'm just not sure how they'd fit into the storyline.

Either Collateral Damage is considered the "finale" to the 24th century Litverse Continuity, or yeah, it's just severed and left hanging.

Add me to those both excited for the Picard series and disappointed the current novelverse (Destiny-verse is probably what I'd call it) seemingly will just stop without an intended stopping point or finale event. I'm guessing/hoping that Rise of the Federation will eventually release 2-3 more novels since it's not really affected and that the other contracted VOY Relaunch book shows up.

Combining with the slowdown in novel releases I think there was a lost opportunity to make 2019 all about wrapping up the current continuity if it's badly contradicted by the new series (very likely). 2-3 Titan Novels, 2-5 DS9, the 2 TNG we are getting, and maybe one last 3-4 novel big crossover event would have been awesome. Throw in a New Frontier finale novel or two and at least one RoTF novels to round things out since Kirsten Beyer is probably busier than ever and unable to devote time to more VOY currently.

I suppose we feel much like fans of the Star Wars novels did when Disney took over and rebooted things. Just seems like a shame for nearly two decades of continuity to end without some attempt at a satisfying wrap-up.

There is, for me, a significant difference. SW was in a really bad slide, oh there was the odd story or comic I really liked, but it had got itself pretty deep in the depths, with no sign it was getting out.

In contrast, the ST books are in a pretty healthy state, which only sharpens the edge if they do go.

I saw on Amazon.com that Titan books is doing a book about The Captain Picard tv series coming out in November 2019.

This one? Seems like a Behind-the-Scenes thing. Interesting!
Seems like Titan is repeating what it did for Discovery season 1. Early during the broadcast of the season Titan released a behind the scenes publication, both as a softcover magazine and a hardcover book.

Back when I was really into Star Trek novels, waaaaay back when it was Marco in charge of DS9, hearing about the new show would fill me with trepidation. Now I'm looking forward to an almost blank slate. I am actually excited to see the possibilities of the late 24th century and I hope guest stars galore. Any nods to the novels' continuity would be nice though. Always loved the "continuity porn" of ye olden days.

I hope they continue I don't mind have two slightly different time line anyways there is a explanation for way things are different
Control was never taken down in the 2250's and became Uraei before being taken down. History goes a bit differently
and realistically the spoiler tag stuff already makes alot of the novel out of line with cannon

Like Discovery defeated Control anyway. That was just some inferior copy.

I kinda gave up on this season before it was introduced. Largely because despite being a treklit fan, the whole control thing was really really terrible, I was glad it wasn’t in screen trek and then...boom. Section 31 and Control are literally putting me off of Star Trek. If I want dark conspiracies shaping human destiny, there’s X Files and stuff. The reason it worked in Ds9 is because we weren’t sure how true it was or how far it went. Now...it’s got silly. Every damn thing was all Control planning. All of humanity is literally like a big version of the kind of society Kirk regularly smacked down the secret microchip ruler of.
Screw that.

I wouldn't be suprised if we get news from Star trek Las Vegas about new TNG era books for the Picard series.

I would, but only because we’re so out from the premiere - I seem to recall reading that the series isn’t due to start airing until after Discovery’s third season. We still don’t have a premiere date set for it. Desperate Hours wasn’t released until the week that The Vulcan Hello was, I don’t see why they wouldn’t do the same with any novels that tie into Picard.

The Picard series is set to air before Discovery's third season. The last we heard about any airdate was "late 2019." Hopefully they're still on track for that. If they stick to that, I'm thinking November 2019 for a premiere, but that's just a guess.

As for "after Discovery's third season," that might have been the Section 31 series you read about, as that is the current plan for that series.

Ah, thank you.

Still, I’m a little skeptical about the announcement of a Picard novel yet, particularly given the lack of official airdate. Granted they could announce both, but with the TNG novel Collateral Damage already expected in October, I kinda feel there is something of a berth being given to anything that ties in to the series, maybe until they know if there’s going to be any kind of conflict with preestablished post-Nemesis lit continuity.

Control in DSC Season 2 was nothing like that, there was no giant conspiracy of an AI controlling the Federation like in the books and It was also destroyed.
All it had in common with the novel version was the name, and that it was part of Section 31 as an analytic AI.

Also ignore what thribs said.
