Let’s hold our horses. It’s only definite canon if it’s readable in an episode. Remember the closeup photos of Georgiou’s TOS episode-titled books on her ready room shelf? Not readily discernible in an episode.Well, damn. I was still holding out hope that they would leave things vaue enough that they could tweak the books enough to be consistent with the show. Guess that can't happen now.
Dang. That would seem to be a smoking gun that the current novel-verse is incompatible, presuming that the caption is accurate and will be reflected in the show. As of now, it's just as non-canon as the novels, but it doesn't bode well!
That would be confusing for casual audiences.I really hope they don’t “Star Wars” it. There can be two continuities.
There won't be.There can be two continuities.
If the 2381 date is canon, then that's it for 24th century Lit Con. It's done. Period. If the 2381 date becomes Canon, will there be a story reconning the last several years, or just get to the Hobus event in sync?
The casuals don’t read the books. All you need is to label them appropriatelyThat would be confusing for casual audiences.
If it is canon, then they'll just have disregard everything the books have done at least going back to then, and start over using whatever the show reveals. If the 2381 date becomes Canon, will there be a story reconning the last several years, or just get to the Hobus event in sync?

I'm still holding out hope that they could decide the books are popular enough to continue as an alternate universe, alongside the Picard consistent books, but realistically I know there's only like a 0.00000001% chance of that happening. Hell, it's probably lower than that, but it's still not completely impossible.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Omega Continuum kind of a multiversal thing and stopping it in the novelverse also stopped it in all other timelines? If only there was a line of Trek novels pretty much custom designed to reset the timeline and alter Treklit history...
It would be a bit of a headache, since it's already established that the novelverse is the only timeline where the Borg doesn't win and where the Omega Continuum doesn't annihilate everything. But maybe they (and other contradictions, akin to how Star Trek Online: The Needs of the Many referenced the novelverse as an alternate timeline) can be ignored![]()
Considering they've already got All Good Things...' "established" future to iron out (although I'm assuming if they even go there they'll explain it away as an alternate Q reality) it wouldn't surprise me if they do take one moment to basically say "this time line isn't the same as other possibilities" or some such....
Just think of all the new stories that could be told between Nemesis and Picard. New stories that can be told. I'm sure cbs products will want to go after casual readers who dont want to be weighed down by 15+ years of book continuity. It will be star wars legends all over again.
