New Picard SDCC Trailer

That's been my thought since seeing the shot. That kurtzman went the comic countdown version with B-4 becoming Data.
He calls Picard "Captain" and looks to be dressed as B4 was in Nemesis, so my guess is he's just been reactivated and has no idea what's happened in the past 20 years.

Surprisingly Data looks more artificial now than he ever did on the series due to budget and the movies.

The yellow eyes make him look like Mystique lol

I'm not used to a Data with extra weight on him lol

He looks like he has mumps.

Given the obvious post-production work here, I'm surprised they didn't shave more weight off of him. Or perhaps it's not done yet.

That was perfect! I don't think Data need to be explained. Maybe it's B4 that became Data or maybe Datas head had a built in force field or emergency transport and it was later found drifting in space after the explosion. Just skip it, let Data be alive and progress into the main story.

Surprisingly they did not get the contacts right. The werent that bright and big with such a small lens, but they looked like pretty normal pupils, just yellow. I mean, how difficult is it to look at a close up picture of Spiner as Data to see, how the contacts have to be!?

The de-aging actually went much to far. Even Spiner did not have such a smooth skin. They should concentrate on making it a little thinner and less on removing wrinkles.

What an absolute surprise! This is not at all what I was expecting and I'm so much happier for it because this looks like so much fun... And I'm so happy that it connects itself with the past and truly feels like the next step in the story. And what a reveal on Spiner and Ryan! Hyped.

Wow, there is a lot of unpack in this trailer.

We have Seven, B-4, Data (?), a weird looking Borg cube (is it being used as a prison?), some mystery woman with abilities, apparently Riker and Troi. I hope we get a ton of worldbuilding. Romulus, the Borg, post-Dominion War relations with the Klingons. Also it looks like we will get a real glimpse at 24/5th century Earth here which is something I've wanted for a long time.

Uh... maybe a few too many spoilers in this title for those who haven't seen the trailer yet?

As for the trailer itself, it's... just wow. I didn't quite realize how much I'd missed Jean-Luc Picard as a character. The plot elements, the callbacks, the promise of these new characters and adventures... I'm terribly excited.

Well if Professor X can explode in The Last Stand and then show up just fine in Days of Future Past...

Yeah, maybe a title change for the thread would be in order. There were rumors the effect that Brent Spiner might appear, but Jeri Ryan was a total surprise.

Well that trailer was mindblowing! I'm even more excited for the series than I was before!

Whilst we don't know how the series will pan out, I'm really glad that Nemesis isn't the final word on the TNG/DS9/VOY era anymore. It was amazing seeing Jeri Ryan back!

The main questions I have after the trailer (after the obvious one of who the girl is) are:

  • Are the Borg still a significant threat? Whilst Endgame seemed to be the final word on them, the trailer implies they are. (X days since assimilation, Borg cube etc.) The cube could be one Starfleet captured of course though.
  • How big a role will the Borg play? Is the girl linked to them somehow?
  • What happened to Hugh? If he's the one they're operating on, it implies he's either gone back to the Collective or just been roaming around in space in the full getup for a while.
  • Is that B4's body, or did they somehow find Data's remains in space?

Maybe it's not that they "did not get it right." Maybe they actively chose to do something a little bit different than they'd done in the past, to make Spiner's character feel a little more artificial.

Is this a prison on a Borg cube?

Those look like alcoves in the back there and I *think* that is Romulan text to the right of the English.

Good shout! It looks like it may be a converted derelict, with the forcefields filling in any destroyed sections.

Yes, I am thinking that it is a captured Borg cube that the Romulans have converted into a prison. If you look carefully, that's a Romulan guard.
