Uh, I had seen someone use shrink wrap on something in a video when I was actually searching for a way to use something as a guide. I honestly think I was researching windows-in-a-mesh at the time. It struck me that to get the shape I want, this might be a good solution, so I tried it with my tutorial model. The thing that was different was that I learned you DEFINITELY need a lot of edges or verts for shrink wrap to work well. So, that's what I did on this one. Yeah, I'm happy with how this turned out. Thanks Bill!Wherever did that idea come from? (I haven't actually tried it on the TOS ship. It looks terrific!)
Always looking to convert a serious talent, such as yourself, Professor! LOL!Oh my, I agree with Bill; that looks terrific! Sure wish LightWave had shrink-wrap; I keep seeing Blender artists using it in all sorts of interesting ways that I have to do manually (or not at all). Grumble.
In any case, you turn out spectacular work already!
Yeah, I used the array modifier (actually two of them) to turn out the grid of holes. Then I used shrink wrap to make it hew to shape.I use Blender, too, but usually I use an Array modifier for large grid-type objects. It's good to know there are many ways to skin a cat.![]()
