New Nacelles

How did everyone like the new nacelle designs? The end of the nacelles glow like they were they really were providing some kind of thrust unlike the traditional engines, which some glowed around the side but really didn't have any other special effects when going to warp. I thought I even saw them glowing brighter a few times when the Enterprise was increasing speed.

They reminded me more of jet engines rather than something warping space time. Not that is a bad thing. I liked the new effects when they goto warp.

Also I really felt like they were struggling during the black hole finale, as the ship was trying to escape.

I like them; they look much more powerful then the old ones due to the larger proportions.

Didn't like the "thrusters" in the back of them -implied too much Warp travel is Newtonian- and I thought the Bussard collectors should've glowed red.

Other than that, I'm neutral towards them.

Don't see how "being larger" makes them "more powerful" or any of the other things people've said here.

Really, I loved this movie but the way some are talking:

"I loved the new big nacelles! They looked really poweful!"
"I loved the new stardate system being the year even though it makes no sense to name it a "stardate" or to make a universal date system based of an Earth date. It was cool!"
"I loved that Engieering looked like a brewery! It looked realistic!"
"I loved that the hypospray was painful. Shots HURT!"

etc.

I can't help but wonder if maybe some *are* drinking some spiked JJ Kool-Aid.

Again, I loved this movie but it seems to me some stuff was changed for the sake of changing it and some things were done (like using a brewery for Engineering) for budget reasons.

Perhaps they were just powering up. Maybe on these older ships the fusion reactor for the impulse is tied into the main warp reactors as well, when the impulse fires up perhaps the warp nacelles also charge.

The rotating metal stuff where the bussard collectors are supposed to be was kinda neat but the decorative cowling over the front ends was gratuitous and unattractive.

They're on the sides of the nacelles.

The flash brightly once and then the ship zooms off.

They don't glow brighter from the rear of the nacelles as the ship increases thrust.

I admit they "could be" simply glowing brighter because of the power, the implication I got, strongly, was that we're supposed to infer Newtonian propulsion.

The funny thing about the nacelles is that they were designed specifically NOT to be like traditional engines, which this movie made them seem like. On top of that, when they were designing the Ent D they made the nacelles appear smaller because of the belief that as the technology got more advanced, they could crank out more power from a smaller engine.

Even though they sort of went against what nacelles were supposed to be all about, I still liked themn. They looked cool and the warp effect was pretty slick

You can see it when the kelvin is heading on a collision course with the Narada. As George Kirk increases thrust the engine starts to glow hotter and hotter and looks a lot like an afterburner on a fighter jet
