You can see it when the kelvin is heading on a collision course with the Narada. As George Kirk increases thrust the engine starts to glow hotter and hotter and looks a lot like an afterburner on a fighter jetI didn't get the impression that the back of the nacelles looked or operated like thrusters. All I saw was them glow more, like the engines were powering up.

Doesn't mean they were what was providing the thrust
Agreed. There actually seemed to be a real, gritty power behind these engines. Were they also used for impulse drive? Is that different than the other series?
