New music clips

Quick question:

I was never a fan of TOS, so forgive me for being a little unsure about this. At the end of the Generations, FC, INS, and NEM end credits, they play the Star Trek fanfare music, is that TNG only? Or will we potentially hear it at the end of this film?

Also the music, for instance at the beginning of Nemesis, when the title is displayed, again, is that TNG-only or will we hear it in Star Trek?

Its a TOS staple. Used for Movies 2-11 since Horner re-introduced it.

The fanfare is the only Courage crossover bewtween the two 'Veres.

AFter that, Goldsmiths TMP (Albeit dumbed down version to the epic movie one) takes over.

The fanfare will be there along with its natural partner, the TOS theme. The fanfare wasnt in TMP, if i remember although the shows theme was. The fanfare was a quirk that Horner adapted to his two scores, then it became common place to use Courages fanfare for TNG and TOS Movies, and incedentally, whenever an Enterprise/TOS character appears on another show (Trials and Tribbleations/Relics)

Thanks very much, just so we're clear, both the end credits music at the end of Trek 2 to 10 AND the opening theme to Nemesis are both the same fanfare?

And are you 100% certain it'll appear in Trek XI? All I've heard is the TOS theme linked above

Its the same fanfare, yup. :techman:

I am as certain that it will be as much it is certain Kirk will get laid within the first hour.

If the TOS theme is there, the fanfare will be too.

Anyone care to guess as to what parts of the movie those clips are.. (except for the obvious ones, first and last)?

My guess for "enterprising young man" is either everyone in the shuttles going to their respective ships, or the enterprise leaving for vulcan.

If anything, like many composers for TV-movie or Game-Movie or Movie-TV or vise-versa, it will intertwined in scenes where its needed.

for instance maybe it will appear when we see the ships registry, or the ship, or the bridge or Kirk or maybe it will be made by Scotty tuning the engines.

May even appear when Kirk nails his prey. ;)

Reminds me a bit, of the music from Captain Blood...

Especially the Enterprising Young Man clip.

Not that this guy is in Korngold's class..., but still.

Why am I picturing all the kiddies who came for the sex and violence running out of the theater with their ears covered once the credits start?

Fuck'em... so long as they paid for the ticket so the box office is sufficiently padded so as to secure a sequel. ;)

Eh, I don't like the last one, doesn't work with the new look. Maybe in the 60's but now. ST2009 has to appeal to the young people of today, not the ones who were young in the 70's. If you bring the visuals to today's standards, maybe the music should be updated too.

I will be the one leaving the cinema early, if that starts to play at the end. Oh and Holmes, people need to say good things after the movie, not run away.

Very nice. The use of the original music in the end-credits sequence is beautiful.

Holy fuckin' shit that was awesome! Just the end credit music I want at the end of a Star Trek movie! That Jerry Goldsmith TMP shit was getting so stale I flinch every time I hear it anymore. By the end Goldsmith was almost as one note as Horner. But this! This was beautiful!

The music, while derivative, is quite lovely, and whether the movie amazes or not, is worth getting the soundtrack for.

Indeed. Their usefulness ends after they purchase their ticket. They can theater hop for all I care.

I've now decided that if all else fails (and it doesn't seem it is), the movie is worth seeing just to hear the end credits. Shivers. It gave me shivers.

To be fair, I really like the Goldsmith TMP music and find it inspiring, if not beautiful in it's own right. The overture is magnificent. The actual theme part of it is a little too brash at times, but the real problem with it is it was overused. I mean really, really overused.

It's ok in TMP where it has all the bells and whistles, but when it's reused in all the other Trek movies and on TNG it seems smaller, less grand.

Sounds good! Some similarities in style to his work on Lost, but that's not a problem. After all, even John Williams has similarities in style between his scores.

Plus they would normally leave during the end credits any way.
