New Merlin on BBC

:guffaw:Just seen the Children in Need Merlin skit. Uther whipping out his mobile phone is hilarious!
I wasnt keen, not much of a developed plot, unless there is a 2nd part ive missed.

Time Crash has really spoilt CiN minis, I expected too much now.

^I know where you're coming from, but it still amused me. Just the Uther bit. The rest was pretty pants.

Uther was funny dont get me wrong, but would it kill these people to make say a 15 minute mini episode, with a full plot?

Is this a new special or do you mean the charity thing they did last year? I like some of the behind the scenes things I catch on youtube. They seem to be a fun, friendly bunch off set.

Anywho, Episode 9 anyone? I must wait, of course. ;0)

Hmm this weeks episode... pretty good, actually. I enjoyed it, and the Arthur/Merlin interaction as always was a highlight. The ending with the boat on the lake was quite touchingly done.

On the downside the preview for next week seems to suggest we're back to silliness.

I liked it. There was enough banter and great lighthearted moments between Arthur and Merlin to go along with the little bit of sweet and tragic moments for Merlin. His happy and sad moments were played against the up and downs with Gaius. No Morgana of course, and again this makes me wonder if this show wouldn't be served better with over reaching story arcs? This Frey plot could have been strung out over a few episodes, and it was very smart that we and Merlin slowly found out what she was.

Although I agree next week looks like Arthur's annual enchanted by a pretty face episode. That could be a lot of the preview playing things up, but we've had two solid episodes in a row. If they had another silly charmer episode they would have played it already.

Thanks for the link! I know I'm behind on the Secrets and Magic series. I really hope we get Region 1 DVDs with all these goodies soon. They bother to do the Series split volumes elsewhere but we're starving over here. I did even hear that NBC does have the rights for Season 2, but is debating on selling them to BBC America.

I wish we had another proper sf and fantasy channel. Even with Merlin in the UK, Legend of the Seeker in syndication, and Robin Hood on BBCA-could you imagine one Family fantasy night block with all three or the like together? I've tried watching a few of LOTS, but I think the acting is quite bad. Even if the story is good, I don't like the people. Merlin I like the people and like the stories. I think we're all just waiting for it to kick into some high gear.

Robin Hood has been axed so that is unlikely

Here's a thought re: this week that I've been musing on since I posted last. Merlin is remarkably quick to reveal himself (magically, calm down girls) to Freya, given that he had no proof at all when he broke her out that she actually was like him. Given that only two episodes earlier we'd had a witch hunter who framed others for magic, didn't it seem at least plausible that she was totally un-magical? And then, running with that, that she might turn him straight in in exchange for her own freedom?
He just seemed to trust her completely pretty instantly, given that she displays no magical powers whatsoever.

yeah, i did kinda think it was odd that he was using magic so freely. and that for a supposed druid girl she didn't do any.

here you go (decent enough quality on the small screen)

and yes it is like the charity thing they did last year

I thought it was very funny, at least they made an effort rather than the Who lot who just said "Oh go on then watch two minute's of the Christmas special."

I was waiting for Gaius to say "I don't believe it!"

Anyway...this week's episode. Great, combined silliness with seriousness, and some good acting from the young guy playing Merlin.

Merlin Arthur and a Dress though, wonderfully played scene! (Actually anyone else think the CiN spesh bit with Merlin and Arthur was for all those shipper out there?)

Next week's looks sillier, but we've had two quite hard eps in a row. Time to lighten it up again before we segue into a hopefully darker end. People seem to forget this isn't BSG, it's a family show aimed at Saturday 7pm market ala Who and, as such, it has to be fun a lot of the time!

I dont disagree with that, however I have been told off for complaining about that before, so its not an opinon I am keen to venture again.

Lies! Gwen must start casually frakking everyone, and Arthur will quit the military and turn on his dad after a near death experience.
;)

ha ha, I'm trying to imagine BSG with Anthony Head as Adama now...

I think Morgana is more likely to go Starbuck than Gwen personally...Arthur would be a very good Apollo though.

Information on the season finale from the BBC's press site:
The Great Dragon is finally free and, full of rage, attacks Camelot with pitiless intensity, in the final episode of the magical family drama. The castle is crumbling and Arthur's men cannot hold out much longer. Only a Dragonlord can kill a dragon and Uther wiped them all out years ago – or did he? Gaius admits one such man could still be alive and in hiding.

The last Dragonlord is the key to Merlin's own past as well as the future of Camelot, but will Arthur and Merlin find Balinor in time to save the kingdom and can they persuade him to return to Camelot to save his enemy, Uther?

The Great Dragon is voiced by John Hurt, Arthur is played by Bradley James, Uther by Anthony Head, Gaius by Richard Wilson, Merlin by Colin Morgan and Balinor by John Lynch.
